Lautenberg Introduces Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act

Measure Tougher and More Comprehensive than 1994 Federal Ban on Assault Weapons that President Bush and Republicans Allowed to Expire Last Year

WASHINGTON, DC --Acting forcefully to protect citizens and law enforcers, United States Senator Frank R. Lautenberg introduced today a bill which would restore the federal ban on dangerous assault weapons.

"Keeping assault weapons off our streets is common sense," said Senator Lautenberg. "Our first responsibility to the American people is to keep them safe."

The "Assault Weapons Ban and Law enforcement Protection Act" would permanently reinstate and significantly strengthen the federal ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazine that expired on September 2004. The Lautenberg bill would improve and simplify the definition of assault weapons; would expand the scope of the ban to include conversion parts kits that can be purchased through the mail and used to build an assault weapon; regulate the transfer of grandfathered assault weapons; clarify definitions of assault weapon characteristics; and enhance tracing of assault weapons.

"It is time to act in the interest of the American people, not the gun lobby," said Senator Lautenberg. "Innocent lives, including law enforcement officials, are at risk and we need to pass this legislation now. Gun laws should be there to protect the innocent; not help criminals and terrorists"

The Governmental Accountability Office (GAO) produced a detailed report at the request of Senator Lautenberg that found that at least 47 suspected and known terrorists who are listed on the nation's terror watch lists were allowed to legally purchase firearms. With the expiration of the Assault Weapons Ban, these people could now upgrade from a hand gun or rifle, to an AK-47.

"Sen. Lousenberg, as he is commonly know in NJ, has done a great public service in introducing this bill. It will get more Dems - including that bubblehead Hillary - on record as being opposed to gun rights which means more Democratic defeats in the coming years."

Sort of like how Kerry was on record for being willing to ban the 30-30 lever action hunting rifle.

"The law passed by Bush Sr. in 1986 needs to be repealed though!"

The law signed by President Reagan in 1986 prohibited all state, county, and local governments from arresting you for driving through their "gun free zones" with your firearms stored in your trunk as you made your way through their jurisdictions on a longer journey.

Repeal that ban on governmental power, as you've demanded above, and local Leftist fiefdoms will once again start harassing law-abiding private gun owners for simply driving through places like Chicago on our way up to Alaska from Alabama.

The NRA helped a great deal in forming what is now known as the red states. This type of B.S., is only going to strengthen our resolve, to help the NRA ad the remaining States to our column.

"Is there a betting line on how fast GWB will sign this bill if it ever gets to his desk? I say about a day after he says he has no choice but to sign to protect "the people" (the elite)."

I've seen losers pop up onto FR threads before, but never one quite so stupid as you.

A Democrat introduces a gun ban, and your *first* reaction is to blame President Bush.

That's a classic. President Bush, who as Governor of Texas, signed Texas' first ever Concealed Carry firearms bill into law. President Bush, who ordered Attorney General Ashcroft to inform the U.S. Supreme Court that the official U.S. position on the 2nd Amendment was that it protected our individual rights (not Leftist-imagined "collective" rights). President Bush, who told the UN to go get stuffed over their proposed global ban of the 2nd Amendment with their International Small Arms Trafficking Treaty...and then appointed John Bolton to be UN Ambassador to insure that they heard him! President Bush, who signed *two* federal repeals of pilot gun bans into law...

...yes, you blamed *that* President Bush for a Democrat's proposed gun ban.

You're vastly too ignorant to deserve the right to vote. You need to be committed in order to protect you from yourself, as well as the free world from your delusions.

Please see your nearest psychiatrist immediately.

He's got a point. Just the other day I nearly broke my neck when I slipped on the blood that's running in the streets. I've ruined a dozen pairs of shoes in all that blood and gore since Bush let the AW ban expire.

How did the LOUT get into the Senate again?

Oh, that's right the New Jersey Supreme Court "GREESED THE SKIDS"* in order to put him on the ballot.

* That is an actual quote from a supreme justice in NJ during the ballot hearing.

This is one who ought to be concerned with performance enhancing drugs in professional sports so he doesn't have time to hack pieces off the Constitution.

I've always been satisfied with SA products and services.

You might want to let US SOCOM know about the problem since they seem to be more than satisfied with SA products.

He doesn't appear to have any hearing protection at all. Once you lose it, it's gone forever. The Navy has a hard time recruiting sonarmen because so many potential recruits have some hearing loss due to loud music by the time they are 18. Looks like the boy in your picture is getting off to a bad start.

I very rarely went to burst. The use of automatic is way over emphasized, due in great measure by "Hollywood". It's great for getting an enemy's head down initially or for covering someone while they move but your accuracy after the first shot goes way down and you burn up ammunition very quickly. The M-4, like the regular M-16, has a very high "cyclic" rate and it does not take long for even a 30 round magazine to evaporate. Our basic combat load was 210 rounds, 7 magazines, and you could go through it very quickly if you were not careful.

Best to leave the fully automatic fire to the M-249's and M-240B's

Nobody has guessed what the gun is yet, but I can tell you that it doesn't require hearing protection. Actually, one person FreepMailed me, and HE knew what it was. Most likely, only kids and younger people are going to guess. If I don't get any more correct guesses by after supper, I'll tell you what the dastardly looking thing is! :-)
