Citizen's arrest attempt of Schiavo, judge (Green Beret Bo Gritz intervenes for Terri)

Former Green Beret Commander Bo Gritz is trying to conduct a citizen's arrest of the Terri Schindler Schiavo's husband and the judge presiding in the case before the handicapped Florida woman is scheduled to have her feeding tube removed so she can be legally starved to death.

The 66-year-old retired Army Lt. Colonel with his wife, Judy, arrived in Florida from their home in Nevada yesterday with the intent of arresting anyone involved in removing the woman's feeding tube that keeps her alive.

He came bearing a notarized "citizen's arrest warrant" addressed to Florida Gov. Jeb Bush Attorney General Charlie Crist. He said his intent is to "papering" state and federal law enforcement offices with his warrant today – a day before Circuit Court Judge George Greer has ordered the denial of food and water to Terri Schiavo.

Gritz says the "arrest" is designed to allow officials additional options as the Florida governor and legislature maneuver to save the woman from starvation.

Gritz says he successfully used the arrest-tool against federal law enforcement in August 1992 when he intervened in the siege at Ruby Ridge, Idaho, and brought what was left of Randy Weaver's family down the hill without further bloodshed. Sammy, the 14-year-old Weaver boy, was killed along with his mother, Vicki, and U.S. Marshal William Degan. Randy Weaver and another man, Kevin Harris, were wounded by police gunfire.

Gritz secured the services of renowned defense lawyer Gerry Spence, and the U.S. Department of Justice paid the Weavers $3.2 million in an out-of-court settlement. Harris was awarded more than $300,000.

Citing his officer's oath of allegiance to "defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic," Gritz says while he doesn't know Terri Schiavo personally, she nevertheless represents an American in danger of citizen-rights abuse, and he feels an obligation to act while she remains alive.

Besides a "Terri-Bill" under consideration in the U.S. Congress, the Florida Legislature votes tomorrow on a modified measure to keep Terri's life-support in place. A previous Florida bill was ruled unconstitutional barring further intervention by Gov. Bush.

While threatened with arrest at Ruby Ridge, the decorated war hero instead walked away with FBI letters of appreciation.

Come back when you have something intelligent to say..

Sorry, I'll come back whenever I like. You, of course, are free to ignore me, and/or leave.

I've only heard it spoken so I must assume it is written just as it sounds.

Not sure if I'm repeating myself to you or not..
If I am, please forgive me..

There WAS a time, when I thought I would like to know him personally..
I thought he was a pretty darn good fella, a real patriot, and a defender of the constitution and the ideals it stands for..
I read some articles, etc.. He seemed to be the real deal. There were those that criticized him, but I thought that was just "leftist" Southern Poverty Law Center stuff, and pretty much ignored it..

Then I heard he had a radio program..
I found it on a local station, and listened to him every day, practically, hoping to learn more about how to fight what I saw as an oppressive government bent on destroying every thing american..
Well, I heard some of that..
But I also heard some other stuff..
Stuff I didn't like..
The self promotion, the "slightly" anti-jewish rhetoric, the white supremacy disguised as Christian destiny, that sort of "stuff"..
After about a year and a half of listening, hearing the escapades, hunting for Eric Rudolph, the Abortion clinic bomber, and his portrayal as a hero, the emotional and mental breakdown during his divorce, and his descent into racism and white supremacy, finally the ending of his radio program..
Well, when all was said and done, I had lost all respect..

I wanted to get our nation back on the right track, I wanted return to a respect for our constitution, but not by the methods Bo Gritz promoted..

I'm sorry, but I refuse to ally myself with the Aryan nation, or any thing like it..
I don't hate anyone that much..
Although some people really p*$$ me off some times..

Just so you know..
I felt I "owed" you some sort of explanation..

Cool?

Blow chunks..

Ah...this must be an example of the intelligent discourse you were insisting I should employ.

Actually, when added to your other arguments, it DOES strengthen them. Keep up the good work.

Bo is going to share a cell with someone if he screws up.

Bo is going to share a cell with someone if he screws up.

No doubt. And no doubt he's garnered quite a few unsavory connections over the years, what with all his anti-gov't rhetoric. I don't know if he's really a racist, but he definitely plays to that crowd.

All of that being said, Terri doesn't have many more days to wait for "good" people to intervene. It may be too early yet to consider it helpful to have a character like Gritz intervene - but not by much, at this point. As I said earlier (to get myself in trouble) - "What's he going to do, starve her TWICE?" The legislature let her go without food for six days before they finally got something done last time...how long will it take THIS time?

I can be reasonably intelligent when the occassion demands..

You, on the other hand, read 4 comments out of more than 275, and decided you knew what was going on..

I shouldn't totally fault you for that, you were not alone in that distinction.. If one could call it that..

Did you even bother to check out #30 and #152?

Then maybe you know whereof I speak when I made my statement in #4..
I spoke in knowledge of the subject matter.. the individual ..
I was not blowing hot air, I was quite certain of the accuracy of my description..

Let's hope I am wrong, and Bo Gritz does not "set off" some frantic antic tomorrow..
I have all the best wishes in the world for Terri, and I hope she will now get the professional care she needs..
I hope she improves, and can regain some sort of "quality of life" with physical therapy and the love of her parents..

Oh.. and I'm not going anywhere..
I'm here to kick ass and take names.. (c8

You, on the other hand, read one sentence I wrote, and immediately assumed I knew NOTHING of Gritz's checkered reputation.

Instead, I'm well aware of it - but Terri is quickly getting to the point where there is little damage Gritz can do with his "desperate measures". She may not yet actually be at that point, and we may differ as to where that point is - but I maintain that point exists, somewhere.

So, step off. (Or don't.)

Excuse my writing you privately...I just wondered why you believed Bo Grist would cause such problems. I had never heard of him, but was thinking of citizen's arrest myself, but I'm not in Florida. 5 minutes after I gave the idea up, I heard of him, and thought perhaps this was God's way of bringing in someone who could actually do the deeds which needed to be done. I don't want to back some weirdo, though.
Thanks for your thoughts,

Bo Gritz was involved in the Patriot movement, which has had its share of ultra right wing extremists. Some of them have been arian nation seperatists. However, this movement is gone and most of its members have gone on to other endeavors.

Even though David Duke once put Gritz on the vice presidential ticket in a bid to run for president, Gritz stepped off the ticket after only a few days. Gritz even ran for president for the Populist Party. However, He has avoided making anti-semitic statements and, upon marrying Judy Kirsch, has become involved with Dan Gayman's Missouri-based Church of Israel. He has since left that church and now attends Rose Hill Covenant Church which espouses the Christian Identity movement. Such a movement does have members who call Jews a satanic race, that is not necessarily Bo Gritz's thinking. He has said, “My purpose is to put patriotism in action and do more than talk about problems." And, "I can assure you that if I was ever convinced that it was God’s Will for me to commit an act of violence against the laws of our land, I would hesitate only long enough to, like Gideon, be certain. I would then do all within my power to accomplish what I felt he required of me. If God does call me into the Phinehas Priesthood my defense will be the truth as inspired by the Messiah."

Shouldn't I be concerned?

Not in the least. The media is famous, as well as infamous about digging up dirt or negative information on people. It seems to be their reason for being, vice digging up the truth about people.

Cool. You are not repeating yourself to me and if I missed the post, I am sorry.

Thanks for informing me about this guy. Its kinda like someone joining your football team only to find out he is an individual player not a team player, but sometimes you got to use him wether you like him or not. As with Terris case any legal means to keep her from starving to death will be used.

Thanks

"If God does call me into the Phinehas Priesthood my defense will be the truth as inspired by the Messiah."

Now that is a rather disturbing quote. In other words, if he kills someone, it'll be because God told him to?

It didn't hurt Senator KKK Byrd.

You are right, and the left does even seem to hide the fact that they hate Jews.

But it has been used against many patriot groups, even when its not true.

had never heard of him, but was thinking of citizen's arrest myself,

I think it is a great idea and hope someone does it even if no one else will except BO.

I am in Idaho with 2 grandchildren, but I believe WE should all go.

If something like this does not inspire us to go, what will?

What would have inspired our founding fathers?

I not very familiar with the Phinehas Priesthood. What do you know about it?

On the subject of hearing God's word to terminate another human being, one would be skeptical if one claims they heard such a word. Most likely, it came from one's self, which is subject to error. God's word is that of love and compassion for one's fellow man. If someone claims that God told them to kill someone, they failed to listen to the true word of God. One can only know that true word through constant prayer and reading the Bible.
