How much of a supply would 10.4 billion barrels equal? 1 month? 6 months? 5 years? 20 years??? Anyone know?
10.4 billion / 20 million (our current daily usage) would give about 520 days (1.5 years).
I heard a talk host (Hannity, I think) talking with someone who said 25 to 30 years. I cannot vouch for that though.
There's plenty more than 10 billion bbls. Once we get a taste, the oil companies will want to expand and this is a good thing.
Liberals say six months, oil experts say at least thirty years.
It's 10B barrels that we don't have to buy from the middle east. Stratigic Reserve North. I think the salt dome holds in the neighborhood of 700M barrels, or 90 days worth.
The U.S consumes 20M barrels per day. We import 60% of that.Do the math.
Well, since production will be about 1 million per day, that equals about 10,400 days or about 28.5 years. Our current usage is about 20 million barrels per day.
At the estimated output of 1 million barrels per day (which amounts to about 5% of our total usage) this would equal around 10,400 days -- or 28.5 years give or take.
Government projections are about 30 years for ANWAR.
I suspect that we'll be producing 1 million barrels per day from ANWR alone in the next 24 months.
The U.S. uses 20 million barrels per day, so the ANWR will provide 5% of our daily useage, easily more than what we'll lose if we have to blockade Iran to keep them from getting nukes by ruining their economy.
That additional 5% will also knock the pricing power somewhat away from OPEC during peacetime, delaying the day we have no choice but to pay $3 per gallon on every fillup.
...And at $50 per barrel, that's $50 million per day, $18.25 Billion per year, that stays in the U.S. economy rather than goes into Saudi bank accounts.
well...that would be 1mil barrels a month for 10,400 months...so what...866 years?
It is not that much. I have heard 2.5%-5% of our total use. That is a lot, yes, but not enough to get ous off the Saudi's teat.

How Long Would Your State Run on ANWR Oil?
Based on mean United States Geological Survey (USGS) estimates of oil potential in Alaskas Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) (10.4 billion barrels*) and petroleum consumption for each state using statistics provided by the Energy Information Agency (EIA), the U.S. Department of the Interior calculated the number of years that ANWR oil would power each state.

It is more than 10.4 billion barrels. Once they start drilling, they will find more, lots more.
The oil companies did a secret survey of that field almost 20 years ago and no exactly knows what the findings were except that the Oil Companies would like to drill there.
It could be that oil reserved there are a great deal more than 10 Billion barrels. The fact is that there are significant reserves there to get and we need to start drilling to get them.
