"Sen. John Kerry ... argued that more oil would be saved if ... focusing on conservation, more efficient cars and trucks and ... oil development in the deep-water Gulf where there are significant reserves."

#1: This from a man with how many private jets and SUVs?

#2: drilling in deep-water Gulf? They balk over drilling off the cost of Massachusetts off the shore of the Kennedy compound but don't mind Gulf drilling?

bunch of whiners, as usual. No solutions, just opposition.

As Sen. Pete Domenici said, we need to do everything.

This is the alt text of the photo:
This undated photo provided by the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), shows a herd of musk ox grazing in an area proposed as a possible site for oil exploration inside the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Alaska. President Bush's interior and energy secretaries are planning to accompany a half dozen senators to Alaska in prepartion for the first environmental showdown of Bush's second term: voting to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling. Anybody feel/know strongly enough to call them on it?

"Not just refineries, but refineries built on sensitive wetlands>>>"

How about some windmills just off Hyannis which Kennedy and Kerry consider to be "sensitive wetlands?" All that windsurfing and sailing territory which they are so fond of.

Whether it's "worth it" or not, should be left up to the MARKET.

If it's NOT "worth it" then the market will leave it alone.

What, are you some kind of Communist?

"That photograph contains bison. AFIK, there are no bison in Alaska."

Those are musk oxen. They are indigenous to Nunivak Island, Alaska. Outside of a herd kept by the University of Alaska at Fairbanks, I don't think there are any wild herds anywhere on the mainland.

specter voted against the amendment

Really? Well, will miracles never cease. Some cliches come to mind:

A blind squirrel finds a nut now and then.

Even a stopped clock is right two times a day.

etc.....

"If you "moo" out the window as you drive by some cows,do the cows think a cow is driving the car?"

Great philosophical question. For all I know, you are a cow, a very smart cow, playing games with us humans. I'm actually a goat. Or, maybe I just need a bath?

If 3 rats voted for it, then that means 7 pubs voted against it. Wanna add 2 more?

"10.4 billion / 20 million (our current daily usage) would give about 520 days (1.5 years)."
Thank you. Hardly seems worth it, but I won't be proven right for years.

Nope, see posts # 52 and 70.

AFIK, there are no bison in Alaska.

Well, I think this also goes without saying, thats not even a picture of the area where they want to drill.

The area in question is literally a living hell, with temps sometimes hovering at 40 degrees below 0.

Its a tundra, and that picture is definitely not a picture of a tundra.

Great pic!

Jonah Goldberg went up to ANWR and wrote a very detailed piece for "National Review" a few months back. He called ANWR 'the liberals' favorite pestilential wasteland.'

Demand leads production not the other way around. Pumping out more won't make it more in demand.

Drilling for Oil doesn't destroy the environment in and of itself.
