Can I be Zotted Under the Patriot Act for Criticizing Bush on the Internet? We've got the modcam on

Posted on 03/15/2005 4:51:28 PM PST by peeseispossible

I post on several forums and avidly and sternly denounce the war crimes of the Bush Administration. I received an email yesterday saying I better watch it as the Bush Administration is arresting those critical of them under the Patriot Act stating they are supporting terrorism. I was told I could be detained indefinitely without arraignment.

Is this true? What has this country come to.

By that argument the Framers should have never led the revolt against Britain. Matter of fact, no revolution should ever occur because people lived under the rule for so long without complaint.

(Not true, British Rule became more oppressive as time wore on. And people did not live under the Stamp Act without complaint. The Revolution would only be analogous to the point I am making if for example, the people had lived happily with the Stamp Act for 20 or 30 years and then out of the blue started complaining about it after some minor alteration in the law. )

Gee thanks. Some of my ancestors died trying to defend that Amendment. I think I'm quite clear what it entails. I would suggest you reread Federalist 45 and see exactly what Madison stated the powers would be of the national government. For you to state 'please show me where it violates the Constitution', I would reply please show me where this enumerated power was given to the federal government. Not an interpretation as politicians on both sides of the aisle have been doing for 140 years, show me the specific enumerated power. The Constitution was designed to limit the government's powers, it doesn't create them. If you can't find it, the Constitution itself states that power belongs quite clearly to the states and the respective citizens of those states. Of course a good 'conservative' will wrongly use the catch all phrase at the end of Article I, Section 8 but that's what most liberals do as well.

(Some of my ancestors didn't fare to well in that 10th Amendment skirmish as well. But you still dodge the issue. The Patriot Act does a number of things. Which SPECIFIC thing do you think is a power reserved for the states. Surely, you don't think the FBI can not conduct surveillance on a suspect, because wire taps aren't mentioned in the constitution.

Also, would you complain about the Patriot Act, if instead of being a Federal law, it were adopted in all 50 states individually. (I won't even get into the fact that if we took that approach, all the terrorist would simply flock to California or NY, where they would be protected.)
