Tally Of Mishandled Ballots Grows (WA GUBERNATORIAL ELECTION)
Seattle Times ^ | March 15, 2005 | Keith Ervin

King County election workers counted as many as 660 provisional ballots in the governor's election before the eligibility of those voters was checked, Elections Director Dean Logan said yesterday.

Logan promised better control over provisional votes in future elections and said new safeguards tested in a small local-levy election Feb. 8 worked without a hitch.

"It's an area where we have to do better and we will do better," Logan said during his second appearance before the Metropolitan King County Council to answer questions about the Nov. 2 election.

Sitting beside County Executive Ron Sims' chief of staff, Kurt Triplett, Logan answered questions for 3 ½ hours.

The dialogue remained civil. In contrast with strong Republican rhetoric in the past about King County goofs in the election, the toughest talk yesterday came from Democrats.

Councilman Dow Constantine, D-Seattle, referring to comparisons made to Chicago's reputation for election fraud, said he had heard enough "loose talk about Cook County — hyperbole about taking names off tombstones and whatnot."

Julia Patterson, D-SeaTac, took "hot talk" radio stations to task, saying, "If there is anything that will undermine people's trust and confidence in our election system, it's those radio stations continuing to lie about fraud in King County."

The state Republican Party has filed a lawsuit seeking to overturn the election of Democratic Gov. Christine Gregoire, alleging illegal votes and errors by election workers. Gregoire defeated Republican Dino Rossi by 129 votes after three statewide counts; Rossi led after the first two.

How long is it going to take for the courts to realize this gubernatorial election is beyond redemption? The time has come for a revote.

Of course. They "won". And we all know how that happened.

The libs have been masters at "stuffing the box" for many decades -- ala the JFK election, great example. Nothing new really -- they get into office and the state goes to hell -- how many examples do the idiot Dem voters need before they wise up.

"Logan promised better control over provisional votes in future elections....."
Store detective: " Ok come with me. I caught you."
Shoplifter: "I promise I won't do it again, so you can let me go."
So there. WE'RE the bad guys. We keep talking about honest elections and we won't leave these pooor rats alone.
You just can't find the lowest level these people will sink to.

Julie baby can work on shutting down those offensive talk shows on radio later.

I think the problem that needs to be solved right now is election fraud.

You know ... election fraud? The kind of criminal act people go to jail for?

"loose talk about Cook County — hyperbole about taking names off tombstones and whatnot."

Dems have a way of stepping into the poo. I predict that the Repubs will find a few tombstone voter names shortly.

The fact that we manufactured 1200 votes out of thin air and handed the election to the Democrat will have nothing to do with it!!!

The inside scoop:

The reason the meeting remained civil, is that the people were told that the discussion on election matters would be held towards the end of the meeting. Those that wanted to vent or find info, were caught by surprise(Republicans are so mushy), when the meeting was ended because of time, and only a few minutes were used to talk about the election.

Dean Logan, the head of King County elections, actually said that Washington was a "voter intention state". That the canvassing board went through ballots looking for non-votes for governor, with votes for other D's, and marked the box for Gregoire.

. When their is no way to change the course of government through the ballot box, what is left to those the state Constitution calls "SOVEREIGN"? The blatant fraud of those in power, shows that the system is completely corrupt, and cannot be changed without action.

For voters to wait for judges to fix this mess is an absurdity. I will be surprised if the election is overturned, or any meaningful change will come from the discussion of this issue. Those charged with running the elections, have systematically set up a system that allows them to decide elections, regardless of LEGAL vote count. No one can know how many times this has happened in the past, or in the future. If that is not reason enough to purge those bureaucrats and elected, what would be?

The head of the Evergreen Freedom Foundation www.effwa.com, has called for a federal grand jury, and jailing of those that perpetrated this fraud of an election on this state.

Just SOP for the 'Rats. We learned it during the long, weary, dreary Clinton years, change the subject, delay, deny, distract, attack the attacker, accuse the accuser. Here the lousy 'Rats scheduled a meeting ostensibly to "review" the election process in King Co., and they ended up with nothing more than a bitch session against talk radio and those poor souls who have the temerity to question the almighty 'Rat rule, as well as a public stroke job for Dean Logan and his corrupt gang.

Thank you very much for this update. Naturally, the article makes more sense now that the convenience of the meeting (convenient, naturally, for the opposition) has been exposed.

I agree with the last sentiment you mentioned - jail time for the perpetrators is perhaps the only way to restore fairness to the process.

Oh, I see. Election fraud doesn't undermine people's trust and confidence, talking about it does! The only people who would swallow this drivel are either blinded by their own ideological agendas or brain-dead idiots. Of course, those two categories are pretty much redundant when it comes to the loony left.

This fiasco in Washington stinks, but lets recognize that this crap wouldn't have been possible in the first place if Washington wasn't infested with so damn many Democrat Jackasses!

I think that all those ballots that have been marked by the canvassing board should be thrown out.

How dare them to think they can read someones mind.

Judge Bridges has ruled that a revote is forbidden by the Washington State Constitution, because that document has its own procedures for filling the governorship that make it different from filling a dog catcher's job if that election is disputed.

If the Republicans win this in court, the constitutional mechanism is for the court to declare the governorship vacant. That puts the lieutenant governor in as acting governor in addition to still being lieutenant governor. (Lt. Gov. Brad Owen is a conservative "Scoop Jackson" Democrat.) Owen would hold the job until the next general election -- this November -- and the governorship would be on the ballot. (There would also be a primary, currently set for September, unless the legislature changes the date.)

The judge could also throw out the manual recount only, and seat Dino Rossi as governor. Rossi has said that he does not want to be "selected, not elected," and so he has not asked the court for this redress. Rossi has said that if the court makes him governor anyway, he will resign and let Brad Owen be acting governor until the November election, or until the legislature sets a date for a special election.

While every citizen is not disgusted and worried about this blatant and purposeful blurring of electoral law by elected officals, the most recent poll shows that 56% of the electorate believes that Christine Gregoire is a usurper.

Did Brad Owen run for Lt. Governor with his own line on the ballot, or as a "team" with Fraudoire? My problem with the latter is that his legitimacy is just as much in question as Fraudoire's. I know there is no choice according to law if the election for Governor is overturned, or is Rossi is seated and then resigns.

Still, the whole thing just reeks with fraud and cheating. Sounds like the entire WA election system needs to be cleaned out and a new one put in it's place. You've got meetings of officials who spend the whole time patting themselves on the back over what a great job they did perpetrating this fraud, and getting paid real money to do it.
