Sprint Charging for Roaming

Posted on 03/15/2005 6:37:57 AM PST by discipler

My wife spent 40 minutes on the phone with a Sprint service rep the other day clearing up $70 worth of charges for calls we didn't make. We were charged for roaming and it took a lot of convincing that nothing was wrong with our phones, that we don't use the roaming feature, etc, before the representative finally removed the charges. Turns out that our local paper has a story that others had the same happen to them. And they had to go through the same ordeal to have the charges removed. Too bad that Sprint thinks so little of customer's time. Image hosted by TinyPic.com If you are a Sprint customer, be sure to watch that bill.

AT&T customers are getting screwed by Cingular now

I had an AT&T phone. It was switched to Cingulair and I started to receive bills from both AT&T and Cingulair - for the same phone number. It took a lot of time to get that cleared up.

Ironically, Cingulair answers the phone saying they will try to solve the problem in one call. What a joke. I had Cingulair in the past and couldn't get the problems resolved in 10 calls. I cancelled and switched to AT&T, only to have them bought out by Cingulair.

Yet another dissatisfied Sprint customer who finally realized they don't give a damn about you, except for that wallet and checkbook in your coat.

Sprint sucks. As a Nextel customer I'm not happy they just merged. Can't wait for the quality of service to drop like Sprint's dropped calls.

Just wondering if anyone has ever had a cell phone company undercharge them. Never happens does it?

My constant over charges came from U.S. Cellular. I am begining to think that they all do it,

We use t-mobile family plan. Have tried others, but this is the best we've found.

Very convenient. We mostly all talk to each other anyway, me to husband, me checking on teenager, etc.

And teenager's friends have t-mobile too, so we all three get by on 400 minutes a month anytime with unlimited nights and weekends (think we pay 59 bucks for this Family Plan including tax) because all the t-mobile to t-mobile calls are free. (and our phones were free with signup for a one year contract)

We had to drop our T-mobile service because they lied to us about new towers...........a year after the towers supposed to be activated they told us - Sorry we changed our minds and aren't bothering in that area.

I love Verizon. The only trick is to NOT let the dullards in the stores do ANYTHING to your phone - buy the phone, and call them to activate it. I've been burned twice by the trained monkeys in the store - the first was when I got a two-line account for me and an ex-girlfriend, and the idiot did'nt apply any of our 800 minutes to her phone, so my first bill was over $1200. THAT was an eye opener. But Verizon fixed it, and gave me minutes in credit that added up to a free month.

Verizon has better coverage in CA, too, everyone in LA that has them swears by the great coverage, I have friends that can get calls out in the foothills around LA, where nobody else can. Here in the Bay Area, I get great coverage.

The big downside to Verizon is their lousy choice in phones - they never have the good ones, or the current tech - it took forever for them to even get Bluetooth.

I want a Razor phone, but Verizon doesnt support it, darn it.

i'm an at&t wireless customer, now cingular.

at&t wireless took 6 months to change my billing address. meanwhile, i'd called and written several times to no avail. then, during one 20 minute session to get my address changed, it dawned on me that the employee could not use the computer software!

so i wrote the ceo in seattle, and they were aware of the problem. they gave me a special 2-week call-in number. i called and that individual changed my billing address.

and people wonder why jobs are going overseas?

my at&t-cingular contract is up in several months, and, unless they can offer me something good, i'm GONE.

Yep, they're all crooked. When my wife and I moved into our new house in Pennsylvania several years ago, we had no choice but to use Sprint's local service (a monopoly as allowed by the state's Public Utility Commission and the FCC) and found ourselves signed up for its long distance service as well. To make a long story short, we got double billed for a couple of months, and I had trouble even contacting a customer service rep since the call centers at that point closed after 6:00 p.m. (I guess they're located in India now) to get the problem ironed out. I got so frustrated during the process that I not only called and complained to the Pennsylvania PUC but also switched to AT&T long distance, which is marginally better. But I learned out of that experience that you absolutely have to watch your bills and question any weird charges that appear on them from time to time. I would have switched my local service as well but couldn't since Sprint had a corner on our community. Also, a close friend of mine who was working for Sprint PCS at roughly the same time (and since has moved on to far greener pastures) used to complain about the company's shady marketing practices, such as signing folks up for services they didn't ask for, or talking them into additional bells and whistles that they didn't need. I think it was called "upselling," or some other stupid euphimism like that to disguise the fraud. The sad truth is that most of us have very little to choose from in the way of competitive services these days.

I have had Verizon Wireless since they were Bell Atlantic Mobile and have had a good experience with them. Their family plan with the shared minutes and unlimited calling between family members is the best value I have found based on the way we use the phones. The only drawback I have found was also reported by another FReeper - their phone choice is kind of limited.

My advice to you is to double-check the coverage map for your area and then figure out when you use your phone and who you call a lot to determine which plan fits you best.

Sounds like the market is ripe for a new player, perhaps Virgin.

BTW one of the very few advantages of living in Canada is that none of the mobile networks here charge for roaming unless you leave the country.

Ouch!

All my kid's friends have t-mobile, so that helps us. He (the kid) knows I'll charge him for calls he makes to friends not on t-mobile.

We only used 124 of our 400 minutes last month.

My Sprint phone had such poor reception and sound that I notified them to discontinue my service. Although I did not use the phone even once after I notified them, I received a bill for the whole 300 minutes w/supposedly 5 minutes of the 300 used. I protested in vain, finally paid it and will never get another Sprint product.

I am with Virgin Mobile...only have to top up every 90 days with $20. Inherited the phone when my B-I-L died...prior to that I refused to bow to pressure to get a cell phone. I basically use it the same as you do, for convenience and emergencies, only my immediate family has the number. Anyone else can call me at work or wait until I get home...I don't like trying to juggle with the cell phone when I drive. I actually have a hard time using all the minutes up. I love it.

How do you do that?

You'll have to use the menu function and on my phone it is located under 'systems'..... I prefer to set mine where I have to make an extra step [such as press 1] to receive or make calls from a roaming area as opposed to not being connected at all. That way I have the option to make the call or take the call if I so choose.....

You phone may have a different set up feature.

Yep, prepaid is the way to go. You limit your exposure to telephone company scams.

I've actually had good luck with Alltel. We have had a couple of times where the charges seemed out of line but they were corrected in our favor.
