THE WASHINGTON TIMES

More than 100 members of the violent street gang Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13, have been arrested in a sweeping nationwide anti-gang initiative called "Operation Community Shield," including 25 in the Washington area and 10 in Baltimore. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, working with state and local law-enforcement authorities, arrested members of the Central America-rooted gang -- this country's largest and most violent criminal organization -- in six cities on charges ranging from murder to immigration violations.

Attorney slashed in MS-13 trial

By Jason Kandel
Staff Writer

SAN FERNANDO - A man suspected of being an "enforcer" for the notorious Mara Salvatrucha gang allegedly slashed his attorney's arm with a razor blade in court Monday during his murder trial.
The courtroom attack came just three days after county officials assured area residents that their courthouses were secure. It also came the same day authorities announced an unprecedented nationwide roundup of more than 100 members of Mara Salvatrucha, also known as MS-13.

The defendant, Erick Isaac Morales, 24, allegedly slashed the right arm of Deputy Public Defender Linda Wieder at 11:35 a.m.

Wieder was treated at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills for a 2-inch cut and was released. Morales, who was classified as a dangerous defendant and isolated in his own jail cell, had been shackled to his seat, but authorities said he had some free movement of his hands and stabbed his attorney seated next to him. At least two bailiffs quickly detained Morales, and the trial was suspended for at least a day, officials said. No other injuries were reported.

Sheriff's officials, who are responsible for courtroom security across the county, suspect that Morales broke a razor out of its holder at the Men's Central Jail.

"It just slipped through," said sheriff's Capt. Ricardo Cotwright, who oversees court services. "It's one in a million chances, and it just happened to get through. I don't know what happened there. We search all these inmates thoroughly."

Sheriff's officials screen each inmate upon arrival at court. The inmates do not go through metal detectors and are not required to strip, but deputies search the clothed inmates and their property, Cotwright said.

Officials were unsure whether the courtroom attack was connected to a federal crackdown announced Monday on Mara Salvatrucha gang members across the country.

"We're looking at all aspects of the assault," Cotwright said.

Morales will face an additional charge of assault, officials said. He was returned to custody.

This is a definite, positive step. Information will be gathered, hopefully DNA as well. So long as they don't get a free ticket out of the country and spend the standard amount of time in prison that we spend [or the death penalty when needed], I'm satisfied.

Don't worry, the communist ACLU will step in and tell us they were all good boys and we don't have the right to prosecute or even detain these pillars of society.

I'll be as blissfully happy as I can about this for as long as possible, but we are talking about superior 'citizens' caught by border control. Gee... will they get away with mass murder? Well... no... this is America. I refuse to believe that.

Put the violent nut in a cell with close circuit cams with a straight jacket on them.

The heck with allowing them to be in a courtroom if they are going to act like animals akin to Gorillas.

Why would the idiot slash his own attorney?

Or medicate the hell out of them if they cannot control there psychotic behaviour.

Makes you wonder how many of these gangsters were hit a little to hard to many times upside their head as kids causing brain damage to the frontal lobes. Mix that with their non civil choice of a lifestyle and you have the end result of hopeless violent humans.

You know I use to be leary of the DNA or tag everyone system but things are so out of hand I am ok with those commiting felonies being tagged and DNA for a data bank.

Law abiding citizens have no fear as there is to big of a job locating the uncivil runamok nuts.

Contrary to what the Federal courts might tell you, illegal immigrants have no rights. None. Zip. Nadda. They aren't even under the courts' jurisdiction. This gang is a band of mass murdering thugs who swarm into peoples' homes. And since they aren't US citizens, they are today's 'Nobility', the way our courts treat them. I could care less if these MS-13 goons are lined up and shot.

A good start, but there are probably tens-of-thousands of the subhuman filth still in US cities, ready to do damage. If I said what I really think we should do with them, I'd get into trouble.
