I passed by a table in McDonald's today where a soldier was sitting alone.

I stopped to ask him if he'd been in Iraq. He said he had. I said, "Thank you."

His response was, "Thank you for allowing me to serve."

I just smiled and walked to my table. I couldn't talk because I was trying not to cry.
