The woman who was held hostage in her apartment by the suspect in Atlanta's courthouse slayings came forward to give an account of her ordeal, saying he let her go after they bonded while discussing God, family, pancakes and the massive manhunt going on outside her apartment.

For someone who's just gone through an ordeal she sure recovered quickly.
I have no idea why you feel the need to denigrate the young lady. Seems to me she handled the situation to an outcome that no one would have thought possible, given his history.
I'd like to bond his ass in the cement of the next building cornerstone laid in Atlanta.
"...they bonded while discussing God, family, pancakes..."
Well really, what more is there to life? And if people can bond over pancakes, then I feel completely safe and secure here, and would venture to guess that none of you would harm me. ;)
Can I get a bunny on this?
If I had been able to keep my wits about me in this situation, I would've tried the same tactic with this guy. You can ask any woman (or man) that's been held hostage by someone that you will pretty much say or do anything if it means your life will be spared and you can see a way out of the situation. Not that I'm suggesting she wasn't sincere, but she basically used the good brains the Lord gave her and saved her child from being an orphan.
Personally? I don't care about the killer. He's going Bye-Bye forever, one way or another after this.
Exactly!
Yup...something people just can't seem to understand about why our President Bush holds some of his worst critics close...belief in the faith that ALL can be saved, even the DemoRATS!!!
Thank you for describing that interview. I'm really getting tired of all the "thought" police on FR. Some people seem to want to dwell on or look for all the negative stuff without giving credit to the positive angle of stories.
I never suffered from Stockholm Syndrome. I suffered from, I want payback and justice Syndrome.
You have too or it will overwhelm you and possess you and then they have won.
Well said.
You don't know what you're taking about. She isn't "tooting" her own horn. She's telling the story. And she has said NOTHING to indicate she has more sympathy for him than the victims.
Thanks
You are welcome. Your description of what we see, to a certain extent, every day here on Free Republic, is what usually keeps me from posting a whole heck of a lot. A lot of times before I click onto a story I am interested in, I try to guess how many posts into the thread it will be before some of these hostile, negative folk show up. I find it incredibly disheartening, to say the least.

Too many people, yourself included, seem to think to be interested in the story means we much buy into a philosophy, or find something redeeming in this killer. Can't we just look in awe at some remarkable events in life and find it fascinating?
Stop trying to put everything in small boxes.
"Please don't use her as a good example".

The way I see it... She was beyond her'self'. God took over, she allowed it. At the same time, this murderer was desperate for relief for what he gave him'self' over to- murder and death. Both were seeking HIM at the time. The whole situation is a GREAT example of how the Power of LOVE/GOD can change lives from death's direction toward the direction of life from one moment to the next. How this story is resonating throughtout America is a testimony of the, POWER OF GOD over Pancakes, not the people involved.
She recovered so quickly that she was able to begin blitzing the talkshow circuit just hours later.
After reading all the armchair quarterbacking going on here and the snide putdowns of Ashley Smith by those who certainly would have said or done it better - some are even trying to dredge up her past and why her daughter was not with her, blah blah - I find someone who says it like it truly is. Thanks fight truth decay
I'm not putting her down. She did what she did.
People have got to quit using her as an example of what to do in a bad situation.
The MSM is giving sheep herding instructions and others are backing it up.
