WEAPONS-PROBE BOSS: IRAQ TRIED TO BRIBE ME
NY Post ^ | 3/11/05

Posted on 03/11/2005 6:25:36 AM PST by areafiftyone

A former chief U.N. weapons inspector revealed yesterday that he was offered millions of dollars in bribes from Tariq Aziz, Iraq's ex-deputy prime minister — to give a favorable report on Saddam Hussein's weapons programs.

In the latest U.N. oil-for-food scandal bombshell, ex-weapons inspector Rolf Ekeus said he told the U.N. investigative panel headed by former Federal Reserve Board Chairman Paul Volcker about the bribe offer, which he said he rejected.

"I told the Volcker people that Tariq said a couple of million dollars was there if we report right," Ekeus told Reuters. "My answer was, 'That is not the way we do business in Sweden.' "

I was reading the NY Post this morning and I noticed this article all the way in the middle of the paper. This is being totally ignored by the MSM!

"Mr. Ritter, on May 14th of that year, you bought a house in Hollywood, a New York apartment and an SUV, all on a UN salery of $18,000 a year. How is that?"

I am utterly shocked to hear that anyone from the UN would ever become involved with anything as unethical as bribery!

I'm shocked do you hear!!!

Aw c'mon.
Now why would they try to bribe a weapons inspector if they had no weapons. Sheesh, let's get real.

~~ BIG sarcasm off ~~

Yeah, that may be why the MSM is--and I am--yawning. Does it surprise anyone? What's surprising is that he, ostensibly, didn't take the bribe.

Oh that's because they wanted to make Bush look like a fool first. The Euroweenies wanted to totally destroy Bush's credibility. They realized it didn't work so now they can start spilling the beans. Isn't that speeeeeeeecial???

OK, where's this guy been for the past couple of years? He reveals this now? Did he instead accept bribes from Hans Blix?

"That is not the way we do business in Sweden."

Did he ask Hans Blix about that?

But of course this is just one guy who says Iraqis attempted to bribe him. No corroborating information, other than one little article (and constant barragement by FoxNews with this none story later today and the next few weeks doesn't count either). And of course there's the minor issue of no WMDs having been found (and please no vial in a refrigerator stories, I'm talking about the thousands of pounds and liters that were supposedly unaccounted for). Also please note the person did not accept the bribe and still did not find WMDs. If I were Tariq Aziz I'd be offering money to make sure I got the best possible report so my nation wasn't needlessly attacked as well. It's human nature. Oh, but I forgot the WMDs were being shipped to Syria, Iraq, fill in the blank of a Middle Eastern nation...Which nation was it that had to be attacked next to 'defend freedom' or whatever the current excuse is?

When exactly did the switch happen that to be called conservative one had to quit calling for limited government only to be replaced with a feeling of false nationalism? 'Spreading democracy' isn't a conservative function.

The MSM would not print anything that would harm the UN since they are on the same side.

He declined the bribe and is expressing his outrage only because it was not enough.

"Mr. Ritter, on May 14th of that year, you bought a house in Hollywood, a New York apartment and an SUV,..."

If this is true it certainly bears looking into. Human nature is a fallen entity with so many having a price tag for their integrity.
A democracy is only possible when the people have a godly moral underpinning.

Immoral self-interest always kills!!!

"I told the Volcker people that Tariq said a couple of million dollars was there if we report right," Ekeus told Reuters. "My answer was, 'That is not the way we do business in Sweden.' "

Neither, apparently, do the Swedes expose mass-murdering dictators as bribe-makers to the U.N.
