I've met George Allen a number of times, he is a great man of incredible vision and committment. However, I'm not sure he has the national exposure to have the top spot, I would love to see him as Condi Rice's running mate.

If I had to bet the house right now on a next president, my money would certainly be on Allen.

I wrote to Senator Allen and asked him if he would mind sending a personal letter to my daughter for her 13th birthday. He responded with a very warm, educational, personal letter. I think I was more thrilled by it than my daughter. He is a good man.

I think you're right. Anyone who has his resume and is not a household name, and not just among movement republicans, hasn't got that little bit of "Elvis" it takes to be a poitical superstar or beat Hillary.

Bill clinton didn't have national exposure initially and look what happened. I think senator Allen would be a terrific candidate. He has name recognition from his father. I understand he was a great governor.

J.C. Watts is like Jack Kemp, pretty smart for a football player, but not near presidential caliber.

Allen was a wonderful governor. Unfortunately, his successor (Jim Gilmore) was a disaster who forced a stupid tax cut through and wound up looking like a fool because of it. Before you get carried away, I believe in all tax cuts. But this one was an elimination of automobile property taxes, it was an insignificant tax cut and when the state had budget problems (the Virginia Constitution requires a balanced budget), Gilmore refused to bend on this. This basically eliminated any chance of the GOP candidate being elected governor in 2001 (a Virginia governor can serve unlimited terms, but he cannot succeed himself).

We will know he's a contender for sure when the 'rats start calling him stupid, mean-spirited, and for tax cuts.

You don't think so, huh? How come?

I ask 'cuz the J.C. Watts I see on TV seems to be quite eloquent, he has a VERY positive attitude (IMO), has decent conservative principles, & is rather intelligent...or so I thought.
