Oldest biped skeleton discovered - new evolution record, 1.2 millions added in one day

A joint Ethiopian-US team of palaeontologists announced on Saturday they had discovered the world's oldest biped skeleton to be unearthed so far, dating it to between 3.8 and four million years old.

"This is the world's oldest biped," Bruce Latimer, director of the natural history museum in Cleveland, Ohio, told a news conference in the Ethiopian capital, adding that "it will revolutionise the way we see human evolution".

The bones were found three weeks ago in Ethiopia's Afar region, at a site some 60 kilometres from Hadar where Lucy, one of the first hominids, was discovered in 1974. Researchers at the site in northeast Ethiopia have in all unearthed 12 hominid fossils, of which parts of one skeleton were discovered.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make

That goes double for your posts. If winter is supposed to be harsh, well, when the little animals emerge in the spring they seem happy enough. The birds and squirrels eat all winter, they don't know what this starvation thing is. Nobody freezes to death.

Your point is incorrect. The NT observation about the birds is correct.

I was indulging in a bit of sarcasm to a poster who said of creationists that a "Jonestown" was going to occur among them.

Seems creationists are already following the internet creationists gods.

I think Christians have killed more people "in the name of God" than even you could credit to the evolutionists.

I think it started when someone said the earth was round, not flat as described in the Bible.

You left out the category that most would fall in.

Then you have to believe nonsense to hold to inerrancy.

That is the reason there are so many different religions. Everyone thinks they have the answer by their individual interpretation.

I belong to a Christian Church whose pastors went through 4 years of college and 4 years of seminary. In that time they learn Latin, Hebrew and Greek and their studies of the Bible are in conformance with the original Greek and Hebrew texts. So what I believe is based on what Bible scholars have proven is correct by utilizing all of Scripture and not just a verse here or a verse there.

The problem with the creationist "leaders" is they have misused the Bible to promote a view that makes them a lot of money by exploiting a schism in the body of Christ.

And what are the names of these "leaders"?

I have the same training, as do many others. The "literal" take on the Bible is in error on its face.

It is much simpler to follow someone who is an "authority" than it is to compare reality to misinterpretation of Scripture.

Ken Ham, Henry Morris, Phillip Johnson and Dembski are four

Dembski was tossed out of Baylor, once they realized he was a fraud. He is similar to Ward Churchill in academic standing.

I don't think the Catholic crusaders or the inquisition ever killed as many over the last 2000 years as Pol Pot, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler,Idi Amin, ect had over the last century.

And these so called Christian crusades and Inqusitional movements tended to burn themselves out as conscience stricken Christians would arise to put down the more murdereous so called "adherents", (sometimes with their own lives) to the faith.

Internecine wars between Christian sects were where most of the deaths occurred as caused by the "Christians" as you mention. Behind the veneers of these struggles were the machinations of evil men who were never really into Christ, but rather into power.

You don't mention the Hun invasions, or the Mongol invasions, who slaughtered many folks beyond number.

So take you ignorant anti-christian rant and stuff it!

Communists are ardent EVOLUTIONISTS, having killed at least a hundred million and oppressed 2 billion in the last century to the present time. That's not counting Hitler with 57 million killed on both sides from WW2.

I read an estimate of 2 million directly slain at the hands of so called "christians" over the past 2000 years, most of these killings taking place from about 1100 to about 1500. Of course this doesn't account for the unconscionable destructions of the Conquistadors in the America's from 1500 thru 1700.

We are not perfect men; Christ said that he came not to bring peace but a sword. In affect he said when this evil filled world was innoculated by God's goodness, the effects would not be peaceful until the time in which God would put all the world under Christ's dominion.

Take a look at who is really doing most of the killing. My figures left out the number of Christians martyred by Islamic states, North Korea, Russia, Eastern Bloc states, China in the past 50 years....nearly a hundred million(estimated, no one knows for sure) and the rate of killings in Moslem areas is accelerating. This is more than were ever martyred in the first 1950 years since the birth of Christianity!

I dunno. Would it be attacking christianity to point out at every opportunity that Jim Jones and Hitler were Christians? Is there a point to bringing this kind of association up at every opportunity?

They weren't Christians. The Bibles says "By their fruits you know them!"

Neither do I believe that every secular minded scientist is the boogey man!

Some people see a conflict in the relative importance of faith vs good works. I personally think faith is embodied or manifest in good works, and there is no conflict. Faith is the activity of love, which is good works. As for faith requiring the recitation of creeds or the belief in a specific interpretation of history, I don't believe that.

Whatever...my point is that no REAL Christian would ever do what Hitler or Jim Jones did. Many Christians are imperfect and make mistakes, many are at different points in their walk with God, but they are not given over in their own minds to evil works. The evil they occaisionally fall into causes them great guilt and strife until they repent.

Real Christians tend to show a pattern of growth and the ability to learn from their mistakes over their entire lives. Fakes don't...hence the verse"by their fruit you know them"!
