Mr. NaturalR Crumb was and is the best and funniest of the underground cartoonists. I saw a recent "New Yorker" that had a big R Crumb cartoon.

His wife sure is a Yoko clone... she has absolutely no talent yet shares page after page alongside Crumb's genius.
And it's true that Crumb was the 'normal' one of his brothers... if you've seen "Crumb" you'll know -- his brothers were truly insane. And frightening. What a bunch of weirdos.

R. Crumb was cartooning for the now-defunct Ceveland underground classic "The Great Swamp Erie Dada Boom" when I went to Cleveland State. I remember when his "keep on truckin'" cartoon first appeared.
He was just a little too bent for me to get at the time. I had no clue he'd go on to achieve such recognition.

Ping for later reading to learn what the deal is about Crumb.

It seems, according to Crumb, it's not so much recognition, as misinterpretation...
As he points out in the article, most people never understood what he was trying to say or do...

He lives in France and just might be big there. On the internet I see some of his comics in French

Yep, I remember Pekar's stuff as well. But then I remember when
Derek Hess was a bartender at the Euclid Tavern, turning out posters for the upcoming bands
that would be playing there ... I guess that makes me fairly ancient.

Despite the fact we on FR disagree with Robert Crumb's politics, you have to admit he was a major influence on comics in general and a fairly good artist. This is something you can't say for one Ted Rall.

Despite the fact we on FR disagree with Robert Crumb's politics.....You aren't entirely right. He's put out some pretty misanthropic stuff that's a good fit with some freepers some of the time, including me. He is very politically incorrect and insulting to women, blacks, not gays as far as I've seen
