The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

WASHINGTON - Prompted by new intelligence indicating Osama bin Laden reached out to the most feared terrorist in Iraq, President Bush charged Thursday that "al-Qaida still hopes to attack us on our own soil."

"Recently, we learned that Osama bin Laden has urged the terrorist Zarqawi to form a group to conduct attacks outside Iraq, including here in the United States," Bush said at the swearing-in of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

The president vowed, "We're working every day and night to dismantle (bin Laden's) network and to bring him to justice."

I just returned from a presentation by the gang unit at the Fort Hall Reservation immediately north of Pocatello/Chubbuck. What an eye opener on local gang activity. We have an offshoot of the Bloods known at the "West Side Crip Killers". About 300 gang members in the local area. In contrast, the Salt Lake City/Ogden area 175 miles south has 380 unique gangs.

MS-13 is getting lots of press lately, but the "the 18th Street" gang is the largest in North America. The only state not touched by the 18th Street gang is Wyoming. One member of the gang unit is a school resource officer at the local reservation. He entered a 2nd grade classroom to do a presentation and was immediately "dissed" by several children. They pulled their sweatshirt hoods over their heads and turned their backs on the officer. The little sweethearts are already fully indoctrinated into the gang culture. One of the kids used the phrase "Slob" to refer to a Crip. That's something you don't do on the street unless you are prepared for a battle to the death. What a lovely culture.

It's very easy to recruit gang members on the reservation. Living on the government dole leaves lots of idle time to engage in gang activity.

Appears they are attempting to incite the blue states and the red states against each other. A modern day civil war on our shores would serve their purposes well. They know we are divided here and they are attempting to capitalize on it. Propaganda deluxe with the Dims, peaceniks and liberal left media consistently playing right into their hands.

That's interesting Myrddin. It brings to mind several thoughts.

Some people want to paint over graffiti right away and that's understandable. I believe that graffiti should be photographed and then the jail/parole/probation offenders should paint the graffiti on a weekly or semi-weekly basis.

Next, gang officers should get on the internet ASAP and look for related-gang banger web pages. Once all the info is gathered; these pages should somehow legally cease and desist on the net.

You've probably seen me post this ad nauseum, but personally, I see no difference whatsoever between jihadis and gang bangers.

OPINION-SPECULATION: The jihadis seem to well educated as to who to appeal to in order to promote their ideas. Obviously, Christians, Jews, conservatives and other infidels just aren't their cup of tea.

Standard procedure is to photograph the graffiti before painting it out. Gang activity is given no coverage in the newspapers or broadcast media to avoid encouraging the behavior with publicity.

The gangs in California have staked out the large indoor malls. Their websites are keyed to telephone area codes. California is so dense that telephone area codes represent fairly small pieces of geography, so they are a "good" regional organizing key for gangs. I long for the good old days, the ones with dungeons and sentences that kept people from committing crimes by mere example. Foreign gang members need a strongly enforced message to retreat to from whence they came or suffer the dire consequences.

I mistakenly believed I left all that behind in San Diego. It is much worse in Mira Mesa today than when I ditched the place in 2000. Pocatello and Chubbuck were graffiti free when I move here. No more. The California gang bangers are leaving California. Especially the older members who aren't up to the daily "rough stuff" on the streets of Los Angeles. They are setting up shop in rural areas where our "mush for brains children" revere a "real" gang member. The "wannabe" gangbangers are getting a first hand indoctrination.

The "badge of honor" for local bangers is cigarette burns formed in triples on the web of the thumb and index finger. Each burn represents a criminal act. After three on each hand, they work up the arms. The "pinnacle" of perfection is 23 burns. The biggest fish located locally has 18 burns to date.
