Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in London, March 1, 2005. Rice cited what she called "firm evidence" that the Islamic Jihad militant group helped plan last week's Tel Aviv suicide bombing from Syria.

Britain's Prime Minister Tony Blair meets Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for bi-lateral talks at the "Supporting the Palestinian Authority" meeting in London. Rice used the meeting to confirm that a U.S. military security expert would "soon relocate to the region to lead our efforts."

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas speaks with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during their meeting in London, March 1, 2005. Israelis and Palestinians must both meet their obligations under a U.S.-backed peace "road map" to ensure creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel, world leaders meeting in London said on Tuesday.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas greets Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice before their meeting in London.

U.S. Lieutenant General William Ward met Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas in Ramallah, in mid-February 2005. Ward is heading to the Middle East to coordinate international efforts to strengthen security in the Palestinian territories.

A picture released by the Israeli Government Press Office shows Lt. Gen. William Ward meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, February 17, 2005, in Jerusalem.

Lt. Gen. William Ward, deputy commander of the US Army Europe is seen here with NATO Secretay General George Robertson. The United States plunged back squarely into the Middle East peace process, naming Ward, a three-star general to help coordinate security efforts, and to help plan White House summits for both sides.

Sorry. I've been battling a particularly irresponsible freeper (disruptor) for the last 12 hours and am cranky :-)

yet wasn't aware she was even over there,

She was scheluded to go to Egypt, she cancelled it. I also hear we haven't paid them their couple of billion dollars yet. That's why Mubarak said he would open their voting.

Condi and Bush are doing a little subtle arm-twisting I think.

Hi, Onyx. How are things going with you? What I find interesting about this news is that the Bush administration is setting the stage for a summit with Sharon and Abbas, probably later this year. It's unclear at this early stage if it will be a joint summit with the President or if Sharon and Abbas will meet with him separately. Our Dubya is not letting any grass grow under his feet early in his 2nd term, that's for sure.

I fully understand and sympathize.

We did discuss briefly on the dose I think after you left I think it was Ozbushkin and myself wondered if she had a cold because on British TV she looked cold and was very well wrapped up and I think it was Oz suggested cold as in her opinion she looked flushed.

Good day to you, snugs. Just for my own edification, who is Baroness Simons? I think Gretchen does today's Dose, and I pinged her to this thread in case she wants to pick up some of the photos. I'll also put a link on the Dose to this thread.

Thanks for the info. I had heard something about the cancellation of the Egypt trip, but didn't have the chance to follow the story in depth. But I do note that Condi is travelling far more than Powell ever did, and that she's quite up to the task of being GWB's arm twister.

Thanks for the info, snugs. Condi has been travelling a lot. Also, the U.S. east coast, including Washington, was hit with a pretty nasty winter storm the other day. Perhaps she caught the cold in DC and was still a little unwell on arrival in London.

Condi looks thinner. Please Condi, take care of yourself! We love you!

The woman is truly remarkable. We will be very fortunate if she rises to the Vice Presidency and/or Presidency some day.

As a female I feel duty bound to suggest to another woman that she could do with a new hairdo...women are funny like that.

As for her statesmanship, she's the best. She has a great head on her shoulders, not great hair style...lol

According to her biography, when it comes to fashion her passion is shoes.

We love you Condi!

Yes. I think she will give the State Department a new meaning.

So good to hear from you. I had to put my little 14-pound mixed terrier, Peanut, down last week. I found him in Alondra Park in Lawndale back in 1998. He had multiple fractures, a congenital heart defect and serious skin problems. They didn't think he'd live long. Yet I managed to get him through 6 1/2 years of a pretty good life. But he didn't do well in this cold, wet winter we've been having. I went home for lunch one day last week and found him pretty sick. The vets said he was in shock and his heart was failing. So I held him close while they put him down. Sigh. Although it's a road we're all going to travel, it never gets any easier.

As for your note that this is the first you've seen of this news, thanks. I knew I couldn't be the only one.

I know how she feels. I have shoes I haven't gotten an outfit to go with yet. My hubby says if I live to be a hundred, there's no way I could wear them all. He'll never understand a woman and her attraction to shoes. He has two pair. One for wearing and one for funerals.
