Hey, c'mon. At least he didn't call 'em "white niggers." (He's "seen a lot of white niggers in [his] time.")

Well, in Byrd's case, he MIGHT have meant it as a compliment.

The very clear subtext is how much the Democrats fear a rule change. Exactly. The overwrought threats of disastrous, obstructionist retaliation are similar to those Byrd issued over the integration of the military, the integration of schools, the civil rights act, etc. Except that Byrd was even more animated in intimidating blacks than in intimidating Republicans.

Yes, the Dems and Liberals just keep putting their foot in their mouths.
Liberals and Dems, just keep talking, and putting your foot in your mouths, the Republicans will keep on winning elections.

Let the Dems have their filibuster. Just make it a real filibuster, and institute drinking game rules for the number of times the words Grand Wizard, Klansman, Bigot, Racist and Old Fool can be used to describe the gentleman from WV.

Too bad the Senate Republicans continue to cower, as if they were the minority party on the brink of electoral oblivion.

He recognized the enormous psychological value of having the law on his side
What an interesting comparison. Parsing and doing the word switch, does this work:
He recognized the enormous psychological value of NOT having the law on his side
Not sure I understand the Grand Mans point. Not sure HE understands his point.

Godwins Law in full effect here folks! When will people start using the term........."Your just like Saddam!!!"...?
I guess the liberals never will, that would mean Bush was right.

Your portrayal of his words is accurate except that the second try without the sheet would sound exactly the same as the first.

I was thinking the same thing. You know someone is out of good arguments when they start dragging Nazi references out.

the move would "incinerate" the rights of all senators. Sort of like the way he used to incinerate crosses on the lawns of black folk he considered to uppity?

well well well, if it isn't the Grand Wizard of Lynchings Bobby Byrd... Byrd joined KKK when he was in his twenties and when it was an accepted thing in his area and family. He left KKK soon after. It should not be used against him any more that GWB youthful indiscretions.
