I'm sure that was a tough call.

Shame on her for rubbing her perversion in her father's face. That is not honoring your father and mother, as is commanded by God. Why can these people not shut up about their sex lives? No normal people I know define themselves by their sexual activities. I am beginning to think it is a mental illness.

Sounds like his daughter is 'acting out' - I am sure it was an extremely tough decision for Alan Keyes. From the little I know about this - I'd say his daughter was deliberately trying to make this a public issue. She clearly lacks any respect for herself or her father. His daughter had no ones interests in mind but her own.

Keyes has cut off his relationship with his own daughter because of surface political differences and lifestyle objections-- what a damn shame. All I can say is that he really must not have cared much for her before this particular public incident if he is willing to destroy such a sacred relationship over such a shallow purpose.

I never, NEVER let a visit to a family member pass without telling them I I Love them and that I will always be there for them so long as I draw a breath on this planet; Keyes would be well-served to do the same. No ammount of petty grudges and political differences can mean anything to a man on his death bed. May the Lord allow Keyes a chance to put this right before that which comes for all of us comes for him.

I usually respect Alan Keyes, and I even supported him to a degree in the 2000 Presidential Primaries (thought he'd make a great Veep at the time). Not here though...not this time.

Good for him. He did the right thing. Tough love. Hopefully she will get over her rebellion and come to her senses one day.

It really does seem petty on the part of Alan Keyes.

"Ms Keyes says she loves her parents and "totally understands" their position."

She loves them. They love her even though they disagree with the chosen behavior.

Nothing more needs to be said.

Nothing in the article matches the headline. There is nothing that says they have disowned her. They simply told her to start paying her own tuition and to find a residence on her own.

Sounds like tough love to me.

Good for him. I'd have disowned the selfish brat for being a Lib. Forget the whole gay thing, let the commie get a job and support herself.

I believe a lack of love creates homosexuality. I don't see how disowning someone helps the situation.

I think Keys is a F#$%ing nut hurting our party

My Mom still laughs about my reaction on being told a family member had come out: "This doesn't mean he's a Democrat, does it? No? Then no problem."

A man who turns his back on his family, his own flesh and blood, for any reason, is no kind of man at all.

So when Mr Keyes' only daughter, Maya Marcel-Keyes, declared herself a "liberal queer" at a public rally he lived up to his word. Her parents turned her out of their house, broke off all communication and stopped paying her university tuition fees.

So he disowns his own daughter because she simply was honest with them. Talk about having your principles all out of whack. Alan Keyes is a phony.

I don't understand why people see this as wrong. His house, his rules. She didn't like them, she chose her path in life, and is doing so without parental support. She's over 18 - they owe her nothing.

The reporter is not reliable, and probably never heard the exchange between Ambassadore Keyes and the reporter that is quoted.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1204846/posts

We know that Ambassador Keyes never actually mentioned any names. He said that the gay lifestyle was one of selfish hedonism, and the reporter asked if that applied to Dick Cheney's daughter and he had to remain consistent. If he knew about his daughter at the time, how sad and how painful the interview's direction must have been. But, it doesn't matter who we're talking about, the truth is the truth.

(Obviously the earlier reporter did not know about the Keyes girl, or he would have asked about her.)

My own parents "disowned" me for a couple of weeks, beginning the morning I left their house - as an 18 year old high school senior - to be married to a boy of another denomination. Daddy was a pastor in a local church. They had two other teens. I know that they couldn't just give me all the support I wanted, then. (My in-laws did support us and I love them for it. But they weren't a preacher's family.)

As I said, in 2 weeks, we were talking, and by the end of the month, my husband and I were visiting both them and the church. They've grieved along with me and we've all forgiven each other. I'm married 31 years, now, and Larry is their favorite - and only son-in-law.

This family is bound to be in horrible pain. I'm praying for them and for the girl. I hope she falls in love with some wonderful man, by the grace of God.

Alan Keyes is not a "leading Republican and rightwing pundit".
He is a pompous, bombastic, bag of hot air.

This is not family values. Turning your back and rejecting your teenage child is a loathesome thing to do. Condemn the sin, love the sinner.
