Thanks to the efforts of members and lurkers on Free Republic and their friends with pro-life email lists around the country, a baby's life was saved last August.
An urgent request for adoption by a sidewalk counselor in Glendale California was posted here August 24, 2004 (original post). The single mother was told her baby had Downs Syndrome and for that reason no one would want to adopt her baby.
Our Blessed friend in Glendale was eventually flooded with over 600 emails from Freepers and their friends willing to adopt the baby. The mother was so overwhelmed that she decided to carry the baby to term, and eventually decided to keep her baby.
The little girl was born January 5th and the mother and grandparents adore her.
Geri's request at this time is that people not email her. She runs Shield of Roses mostly on her own and she doesn't have the time or resources to deal with all the national attention. She needs to get back to saving babies one-at-a-time.
Please pray for Geri in her good works, for the new mother and for all the unborn babies who will not be so fortunate.
Here is the original email from August 24th and the follow up message Geri sent this week (with her email address deleted).
8/24/2004And here is the message Geri sent this week:
Hello, everyone!
I've been speaking to an unmarried woman in her mid-30s, in her fourth month with a Downs Syndrome Baby. She has an aborton scheduled.
She has relented, and given us a few days to see if there is a family out there who wants to adopt her special-needs baby. Her family is totally against the abortion, and wants her to adopt the baby out. Mom was very insistent on going ahead with the abortion, so this respite of a few days buys us time.
Do you know of anyone right now ready to adopt a special-needs baby? It is probably better if they have gotten their home study or are in the process. We need to have this woman speak to people who can take action now and convince her that her baby is wanted. If you don't know of any families, pls keep us all in prayer. I thank God we've been given this time to help her.
Thank you all.
Geri (email address )
2/25/05I've met with baby Kristy with Downs, and she is wonderful! She was born on January 5, and is cute as a button.
She has no heart problems, and no hearing problems. Mom is madly in love with her daughter, and grandma and aunt and uncles also adore her. Mom is so very glad that others showed the worth of her baby before she could even begin to love her.
I thank you so very much for your outpouring of love for this family. God continue to bless you and yours.
Because I've received over 600 e-mails originally, pls do not respond to this e-mail. We have other clients to take of, and I'd be swamped once again. Please do know that I truly appreciated your concern and your prayers for this mom and her baby.

Again please don't email Geri, give your praise to The Lord who answered our prayers. I will PING everyone who posted to the original thread. Please forwarded this back up your email chains to the same people who received it last time.
What a beautiful day it is today!
What a wonderful outcome!
What a wonderful post. The power of He Who Loves is revealed.
"Politics is the surface attraction here. It's the absolute humanity of the place that keeps folks coming back."
Restated: Politics is the surface tension; humanity, the deep waters.
Praise God!
Thanks for the ping. Great news!

Recently at WalMart, I witnessed a mother coo'ing so softly and tenderly to her baby. As I passed by I noticed the sweet little babe had Downs. I shared with the mother that she is blessed to be gifted in such a special way. The mother had tears in her eyes. I did too.
Thank you again for this update.
Mrs Tiggywinkle in Elk Grove :o)
I just returned about 30 minutes ago from a trip to another part of this state to babysit a (just turned) four-year-old girl, my brother's fiance's child. My soon-to-be sister-in-law got ill and had to spend a few days in the hospital and they had nobody to take care of the baby so I went to clean, cook, babysit and help out.
This precious little girl was adopted. Her Mama raised four of her own children and knew a girl who was going to abort her baby. So, she adopted it, even though she had raised hers, to keep the baby from being murdered.
And this child is the sweetest little girl I have ever known, and I have taken care of and loved many children.
What a precious child!! She told me about every 10 minutes "I wuv yo."
And she'd turn those beautiful big brown eyes up at me and say, every few minutes (just out of the blue) "You okay?"
And I'd say, "Yea." And she'd say "Ya sure?"
Don't know why she kept asking me that.. I told her Mom that when she came home from the hospital and her Mom said "I don't know . . . children just sense things."
The little girl was the best behaved child I have ever cared for, and I'm a Grandma and have cared for a LOT of children. I just sense that this child is so special, she is so smart and loving. I miss her already, even though she is a handfull at her age. I'm not a young chick so chasing a kid this age is a challenge for me.
And to think to somebody she was unwanted, an inconvenience, a fetus.
Gosh I am crying as I write this. Since I'd been deprived of my freerepublic reading a few days to take care of this child this post really hit me hard.
God bless the folks who are on the front lines saving lives like this beautiful little child. I AM HOME NOW AND CAN STILL SEE THOSE BIG, INNOCENT BROWN EYES looking into my soul and can her that sweet little voice saying "Ya okay?" Ya sure?"

Life.
It's so nice to hear some good news from the front lines of the battle we're fighting.
God is so good!
thank you for letting us all know this wonderful story of the love of God's creatures for one of His little ones.
That's why you have only heard about it here! Praise the Lord that this baby was saved from death and her Mom has learned the value of every life!
Oh my......
God bless YOU, big time.
Tell Mom THANK YOU from all of us!!!!
BTTT
What a heart-warming story!
Next time people make reference to FR and Freepers as knuckle-draggers and hypocrites, let the record be shown that when faced with this situation, people acted on their convictions rather than standing by as the young mother chose death, to the benefit of all parties involved.
This is wonderful!!
Update appreciated. How very gratifying.
Prayers on the way.
