> Canada, which this week refused to join a U.S. missile system designed to protect North America, nevertheless insisted on Friday that Washington must consult it before firing rockets into Canadian airspace.
"This is our space, our airspace. We're a sovereign nation and you don't intrude on a sovereign nation's airspace without seeking permission," Prime Minister Paul Martin told reporters. <
So, we have to ask permission to shoot down a warhead headed our way? Right, we'll get on that, Mr. we-spend-less-than-half-of-the-NATO-average-on-defense.
Also in the article was a quote by the Conservative Party of Canada:
> The opposition Conservatives mocked Martin's comments, saying they were totally unrealistic.
"This is delusional. There are only minutes available for a decision. How can the prime minister realistically believe the U.S. will consult him before firing their interceptor missiles?" party defense spokesman Gordon O'Connor asked Parliament. <
Once again, it seems as if conservatives have a monopoly on common sense. Glad to know that intelligent conservativism transcends national borders.
They are already doing that. Apparently, Canada does not have any respect for our sovereignty or they would take border security on their side more seriously.
Especially, if in a fit of pique, they're headed for Ottawa.

Uhhh, yeah. So whadda you gonna do about it?
LOL !!! That's a GREAT compromise that I'm willing to concede...
Tell Canada that we would be happy to consult on all launches that "overfly" Canadian territory, however we will not be consulting with them on any launches intended to "impact" their territory.
Whoever came up with the air space sovereignty bit in response to Canada ppting out of Missle Defense deserves a nice merit badge. This is incredibly comical.
"Hey, hosers. just called to say,'That's our missles going by.'"
Cool collage!
Canada's entire defense policy is "defence by irrelivance"
I have never seen a nation stive more ardently to actually ACHIEVE irrelivance.
Canada means NOTHING on the world arena. Even their much vaunted achievement of helping amerincans escape from Iran during the carter hostage crisis was a fake. (the CIA actually did the job and allowed canada to take credit in order to preserve their CIA assets.)
With all due respect to Canadians who post here, it is bonehead comments like this that make it very reasonable to question the need for Canada to even exist.
Their ecconomy is a subsidiary of USA, Inc., their military is functionally non-existent they should just states of the USA.
Hooah.
Sent them an Email.
Shamed once again! I apologise for my country's gross arrogance. I just don't know what to say anymore, I can't defend the behaviour of my crap government. I wish you guys would invade us and set us straight!
You're making me hungry for cauliflower.
Yeah! And they can tell the UN they are deeply concerned, too! And then the UN can send a message back to the Canadians, and the message will tell the Canadians that the UN is MORE deeply concerned that the Canadians are about this issue!
The latest offering from the Pierre Trudeau Legacy Moment Collection.
