Almost 50 percent of Americans, according to recent polls, and millions of people elsewhere in the world believe that UFOs are real. For many it is a deeply held belief.

For decades there have been sightings of UFOs by millions and millions of people. It is a mystery that only science can solve, and yet the phenomenon remains largely unexamined. Most of the reporting on this subject by the mainstream media holds those who claim to have seen UFOs up to ridicule.

On Feb. 24, "Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs — Seeing Is Believing" takes a fresh look at the UFO phenomenon. "As a journalist," says Jennings, "I began this project with a healthy dose of skepticism and as open a mind as possible. After almost 150 interviews with scientists, investigators and with many of those who claim to have witnessed unidentified flying objects, there are important questions that have not been completely answered — and a great deal not fully explained."

"Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs — Seeing Is Believing" airs Thursday, Feb. 24 from 8-10 p.m. ET on ABC. The program will be broadcast in High Definition.

This two-hour primetime special reports on the entire scope of the UFO experience — from the first famous sighting by Kenneth Arnold in 1947 to the present day. The program draws on interviews with police officers, pilots, military personnel, scientists and ordinary citizens who give extraordinary accounts of encounters with the unexplained. Also included are the voices of professional skeptics about UFOs, including scientists who are leading the search for life forms beyond Earth elsewhere in the universe.

The program explores the facts behind the enduring mystery of the incident at Roswell, N.M., and looks into the strange stories of alien abductions. Among the UFO cases presented:

Minot Air Force Base, N.D., October 1968 — Sixteen airmen on the ground and the crew of an airborne B-52 witness a massive unidentified object hovering near the base.

Phoenix, March 1997 — Hundreds witness a huge triangular craft moving slowly over the city.

St. Clair County, Ill., January 2000 — Police officers in five adjoining towns all independently report witnessing a giant craft with multiple bright lights moving silently across the sky at a very low altitude.

Today if you report a UFO to the U.S. government you will be informed that the Air Force conducted a 22-year investigation that ended in 1969 and concluded that UFOs are not a threat to national security and are of no scientific interest. But as one of the world's leading theoretical physicists says in the program, "You simply cannot dismiss the possibility that some of these UFO sightings are actually sightings from some object created by … a civilization perhaps millions of years ahead of us in technology."

BTW, the whole abduction thing is interesting in light of the fairly rare, but perfectly explanable situation of awareness while in sleep paralysis.

It would be perfectly explanable if all abductions took place from people's beds. Another thing, it didn't make sense that due to sleep paralysis, all of these people experienced the "same" type of visitor in their dream.

The scientists gave as much proof that it was sleep paralysis, as the abuctees gave that they were being abducted. The one woman scientist irked me, it was more or less because SHE SAID that it was sleep paralysis it was so. I don't have the answer, but it could have been seizures, sleep paralysis, or aliens. If scientists want direct proof, then they too should have to provide it in their direct arguments.

Very prayerfully and Biblically.

God is God and always will be God. He still has EVERYTHIGN in control.

He has declared that

EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW; EVERY TONGUE CONFESS that Jesus Christ is Lord of Lords and King of Kings.

We shall rule and reign with Christ over all that is in any dimension, any galaxy.

The priority thing is to be WITH GOD and play by His rules laid out in The Bible.

And perhaps, to be quick to test the spirits--as Scripture says--do the ET's confess that Jesus came in the flesh etc. AND DO THEY SUBMIT TO HIS AUTHORITY AS HIS LOVING SERVANTS? If not, avoid at all cost.

But mostly, Follow God so closely, that MY SHEEP KNOW MY VOICE as Jesus said.

Just out of curiosity, when you experienced sleep paralysis, did you see any beings?

The Bible says FEAR NOT perhaps more than most other phrases.

We ought to fear only displeasing our Loving Father God.

HE IS ABLE TO KEEP THAT WHICH WE HAVE COMMITTED TO HIM AGAINST THAT DAY.

He promised to be with us and to take us forever to be more fully with Him.

Nothing else matters but walking close to and with Him.

He has even evil ET's under His masterful control.

Besides, supposedly ET's love to eat the brains of people who are scared. Supposedly creates some chemical change which they are addicted to. NOw that's a wild one for you!

Seriously, FEAR OF MAN [and by projection--of ET's] is a trap, as Scripture says.

Grow in faith. Read Scripture; memorize Scripture, walk close to God. Our only hope for a lot of reasons.

Merifully, God has seen fit that I've suffered enough that I'm rarely that scared any more.

Anyway, there was a contest as to who could solve the mystery and it was won, not by a somebody into hard sciences but by some librarian from Arizona who researched every one of the reported mysteries and showed how each was wildly exaggerated or even fabricated.

This site lists the ships, and also mentions the methane theory, along with the Alantis Crystals, Time Travel, UFO's and others. I personally find the methane more plausible.

But abductions are not the only odd thing that people report where stories are similar. Again, remember the McMartin Preschool case? I think that sort of thing shares a lot with abduction accounts

Fraud. Sleep paralysis. So-called "recovered memory" as in artifacts of hypnosis. Unskilled or biased investigators interviewing suggestable subjects. Hallucination, delusion, or other mental illness. I submit that each of these accounts for some of the abduction stories, perhaps most or even all, without requiring a belief in visiting, malevolent aliens from other planets.

Where are the abduction accounts where explanations such as the above can be fairly ruled out? Until we get to actual cases, we are just all stating opinions.

Yes, and sooner than even many Christians think. Though It could be 25 or so years out--say as late as 2060. I suspect it will be less than 15.

I have a personal belief that for a lot of reasons--perhaps not the least--the UFO stuff--

REALITY ITSELF will appear to become convoluted--inside out and upside down.

Only KNOWING GOD BECAUSE YOU KNOW BECAUSE YOU KNOW; MEMORIZED SCRIPTURE AND KNOWING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN God's still small voice within and deceptions--GOD IS OUR HIGH TOWER ALONE. We need to know that in our bone marrow. We need to avoid being deceived by anything. At some point, only God can make that true for us. But we need to do our part in drawing close to and walking intimately with Him. SEEK YOU FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS Scripture says--then all this shall be added unto you.

I believe that includes safety/security/peace in the face of the future.
