Almost 50 percent of Americans, according to recent polls, and millions of people elsewhere in the world believe that UFOs are real. For many it is a deeply held belief.
For decades there have been sightings of UFOs by millions and millions of people. It is a mystery that only science can solve, and yet the phenomenon remains largely unexamined. Most of the reporting on this subject by the mainstream media holds those who claim to have seen UFOs up to ridicule.
On Feb. 24, "Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs Seeing Is Believing" takes a fresh look at the UFO phenomenon. "As a journalist," says Jennings, "I began this project with a healthy dose of skepticism and as open a mind as possible. After almost 150 interviews with scientists, investigators and with many of those who claim to have witnessed unidentified flying objects, there are important questions that have not been completely answered and a great deal not fully explained."
"Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs Seeing Is Believing" airs Thursday, Feb. 24 from 8-10 p.m. ET on ABC. The program will be broadcast in High Definition.
This two-hour primetime special reports on the entire scope of the UFO experience from the first famous sighting by Kenneth Arnold in 1947 to the present day. The program draws on interviews with police officers, pilots, military personnel, scientists and ordinary citizens who give extraordinary accounts of encounters with the unexplained. Also included are the voices of professional skeptics about UFOs, including scientists who are leading the search for life forms beyond Earth elsewhere in the universe.
The program explores the facts behind the enduring mystery of the incident at Roswell, N.M., and looks into the strange stories of alien abductions. Among the UFO cases presented:
Minot Air Force Base, N.D., October 1968 Sixteen airmen on the ground and the crew of an airborne B-52 witness a massive unidentified object hovering near the base.
Phoenix, March 1997 Hundreds witness a huge triangular craft moving slowly over the city.
St. Clair County, Ill., January 2000 Police officers in five adjoining towns all independently report witnessing a giant craft with multiple bright lights moving silently across the sky at a very low altitude.
Today if you report a UFO to the U.S. government you will be informed that the Air Force conducted a 22-year investigation that ended in 1969 and concluded that UFOs are not a threat to national security and are of no scientific interest. But as one of the world's leading theoretical physicists says in the program, "You simply cannot dismiss the possibility that some of these UFO sightings are actually sightings from some object created by a civilization perhaps millions of years ahead of us in technology."
"Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs Seeing Is Believing" is produced by PJ Productions and Springs Media for ABC News. Mark Obenhaus and Tom Yellin are the executive producers.
I expected it would be mostly what we already know.
1) MOST of the public is clueless and ignorant on the topic regardless of publicity and movies.
2) They seem to have evolved a pattern of disclosure of reviewing previous disclosures and nudging a little more in this or that direction and then evaluating the public's response.
3) Then months to a year or so later, another similar program with some more subtle nudges with bits of more info in this or that direction. Has been the case over dozens of programs that I've seen.
Too bad abductions always have to be by scary, ugly aliens. What would be wrong with the occasional abduction by SI Swimsuit Models?
Ooooh Yeaaah. You got a point. I forgot about that.
Not my anus. What comes out may be foul, but nothing that foul.
Dr. Steven Greer was attempting to get the government to open all matters re UFOs. Had a big press conference a few years ago, but I haven't heard anything in a long time. I did see where Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico (and Monica fame) was trying to get some disclosure thing going. Haven't heard about that in a while either. (Man this dial up speed sucks)
There is a single truth to all of this?
They are afraid of facing something they can't control. Most of all, there would be millions of questions and demands by the people (imagine the election rhetoric. "If I'm elected, I will do everything I can to make the aliens pay the gas tax"),
questions and demands that they would have no answers to at all. Politicians are experts at giving answers and obfuscation.
They couldn't obfuscate their butts out of this one.
What about Men in Black, and alien human hybrids. Do you feel those are real too?
Most any recent years Christian book on the topic will lay out the demon aspect in quadruplicate.
The other literature from more scientific standpoints in books and web docs--the better web docs--will lay out the other.
Some of the hardware stuff I get from my relative.
I don't file the info I read in any hardcopy anything or even on computer per se. It's a distillation of 40+ years of study.
I'm even giving away my significant UFO library to some Chritian brother with some knowledge of Dulce whom I know will not be hurt in his spiritual relationship with God by the books. I don't get into it with some Christians or others, for that matter. I don't want their spirituality with God being put at risk.
On the other hand, I think some need WARNED so that their spirituality won't be at such risk as many's will be when things really come out in the open.
Yup. And it's out there, Scully.
BTW, which of my statements did you find most extreme?
Sorry. I'm clueless what you mean ooparts???
bladder break.
Good point.
The next day at home, we heard the neighbors shouting we should look up. All of us five family members went to the roof only to see another silver object overhead. It also sat in one place for a while and then sped off at great speed. OK, now what was it that all the neighbors and we saw? I have no answer yet, but they certainly were not balloons.
Don't have time to go into it, but your interesting side-discussion may have it's parallel in the tales of people who 'wake up' during otherwise deep anesthesia.
You ain't seen nothin' yet! If these people have enough trouble believing the UFO sitings info, they sure don't want to be fed what I have in MY files!
Hi Quix, question,
I guess in your time zone you're about halfway thru the show, right?
My question is, for those of us who are alert and are following world events and trying to make sense of them, how do we assimilate the possibility of extraterrestrials?
Appreciate your help.
Many blessings.
