We just need to come up with a scheme to kill them before they get the honor to do it themselves.

Car Bombing in Tikrit Kills 15

ASSOCIATED PRESS

TIKRIT, Iraq (AP) - A car bomber drove into a parking lot inside police headquarters in Saddam Hussein's hometown and detonated explosives on Thursday, killing at least 15 people and wounding 22, police and witnesses said.

The massive blast in Tikrit set ablaze 20 cars and sent clouds of smoke into the sky. At least 10 charred bodies could be scene laying on the ground.

Police Lt. Sha'alan Allawi said the bomber drove a vehicle into a parking lot inside the police compound before detonating the explosives. Several ambulances ferried casualties to a local hospital.

Police Capt. Hakim Mohammed, part of a force protecting Tikrit's main hospital where most of the casualties were brought, said 15 people died in the blast and 22 were wounded.

U.S. troops quickly set up checkpoints across the city, searching vehicles.

U.S. Army Maj. Neil Harper confirmed the attack was a car bomb, but he had no other details.

Tikrit is located 80 miles north of the Iraqi capital.

Insurgents have relentlessly attacked U.S. and Iraqi security forces with car bombs throughout the past year.

"TIKRIT, Iraq (AP) -- A car bomb exploded near the police headquarters in the Iraqi city of Tikrit on Thursday, killing at least 10 people, witnesses said."

I am past the exasperation stage on this madness for lack of security. Just how in the hell do these cretin terr perps keep being able do this?

I have never witnessed such keystone (Iraqi) cops, they must operate with one thumb up their anus and the one in their mouth, only switching off occasionally for variety.

Either our training is abysmal, or they are non-learners doomed for continual Darwin awards in the hereafter.

The terrorists have the element of surprise and the cops have a big target on their backs.

You just have a big freakin' mouth. I'll bet you were never in Iraq and you never witnessed anything over there. Let's put a big target on your house and see what some could do to you if they put their mind to it.

Remember, the good guys have to be right 100% of the time, the bad guys just once in a while.

The problem is that there is no good defense against suicide bombers, aside from banning cars altogether. Once the a willing shaheed has left the garage in a rigged vehicle, he's pretty much guarenteed to kill people.

The only way to counter this is to take out the garages and eliminate the supply of men and materiel. In many cases, this is a matter of civilian support. If the locals do not support the insurgents (as is the case in most of Iraq) then they can't set up shop. In places like Tikrit, Baathist sentiments still run deep. Most people will a bombmaker next door won't say a word.

Eliminating foriegn support is also crucial. Syria and Iran continue to fund, arm and supply the insurgents, as well as provide havens for high level facilitators. It's the old 'political sensitivities' thing that prevents us from hitting back, and they're playing it to the hilt.

Still, the biggest obstacle to peace is the fact that there are still civilians that support the insurgency. Sometimes they do so directly, but often by their silence alone. Once they are persuaded to turn the bad guys in, the resistance will evaporate. In the Shiite and Kurd areas that are far from the Sunni neighborhoods, there is little to no insurgent activity. That's no coincidence.

If strange bad people are driving into my neihgbor's yards and blowing them up, they damn well will not be driving into my yard unless I authorize it. Otherwise, they will be met with overwhelming lethal force the instant they get into my imposed saftey zone where I feel threatened.

Yes, let's blame the victims. What a dumb statement.
