IRAQ war wobbler Jacques Chirac scuttled George Bushs fence-mending trip to Europe yesterday by cranking up a row over the future of Nato.
He embraced a German-led plot to ditch the alliance as the backbone of transatlantic relations, in favour of the European Union.
He also snubbed President Bush by speaking French at a dinner, despite having fluent English.

I will tell you what President Bush is "up to". He is a straight shooter and a gentleman.
He is making nice with the euros right now. He is giving them a chance to get on board.
You are 100% right. He is a gentleman, and he is going to treat them with respect even if he doesnt feel it in his heart. Now, they can accept this, or they can act like jerks and do subtle stunts and point it out to the media dogs. This is the news in Europe, rag equality political gossip that they have snubbed the President of the United States. This is what gives them pride
how sad, but who cares. They act like school children while their economies and social structure crumble.

I wouldn't be surprised if he speaks French as well as Spanish Me neither.
I know that Pappa Bush apologized for speaking fluent French.

So who will save him if they are invaded by Luxembourg or Jamaica?
To: wagglebee
If I ever have dinner with Chirac, I'll speak German.

EU "forces".....Was that meant to be funny, or is it an indication of just how insane the Euroweenies have become?
Beginning to look like there may be another invasion of Europe in my lifetime -- and I'm a very old fart.

Meanwhile, the US Air Force is considering giving a contract for refueling tankers to Airbus, instead of Boeing.
Treason! No way! B.S.
I refuse to believe it. Maybe, as leverage in the dispute over arms to China, but NEVER as a gesture of good will. I hope not.

Yep! Airbus payoff to Jacques so that Jacques can display his impeccable manners and Frenchmen can work while Americans can twiddle. All the free traders here vow it doesn't make a difference.(To them! Or to W!)

Ciao McGavin999

Berlusconi's a strange fish even in Italy. A self made billionaire, (he used to be a singer on trans-Atlantic ships) a practical minded, no-nonsense politcian who doesn't speak the usual fried air "politicalese" which is the curse of Italian politics.
Of course someone like him can only love America. We might be a minority, but some of the greatest American patriots live in Europe. We're not all "weenies" and we know how to say thank you and to feel pride and admiration for your country instead of the dark and sullen, joyless envy of the crazy left.
I will not tire of saying it, but the real problem today is not about left and right, but good and bad. Politics is no longer a struggle between slightly favoring production or distribution, but about sanity and insanity. Just look who your "left" and our "left" are allying themselves with: a commi-fascist Castro, the North Korean Emperor Kim, the mysogenist and murderous Arabs, the anti-semites, the Amish anti-modernists... and so on and so forth. A mishmash of conflicting ideologies that if - God forbid - came to power, would at once destroy itself and their countries. All they have in common is hatred for civilization. And that is not a political matter but one of either religion or psychiatry (better option 1). Ciao H

Bush reached out and got his hand smacked again. Now no one can say he didn't try. Now he and we no longer have to try to mend fences with the Crap Weasels. We are free to pursue our own interests.

A few years ago a friend of mine whose first language is spanish went on vacation to Europe and she was surprised at how much she understood of both French and Italian television shows, etc.
I think Bush understands a lot more than some give him credit for when Chirac and others speak around him.
