Clint Eastwood has acknowledged that a plot twist in Million Dollar Baby that raises the issue of euthanasia "does hit you with sort of a left hook," and that when he attempted to raise money to produce the film "nobody seemed enthralled with that." In an interview appearing in the current issue of Time magazine, Eastwood suggested that he was able to keep the plot twist secret because the movie was made "under the radar. Nobody knew we were making it, and nobody gave a damn that we were making it." Eastwood said that he was surprised that it took so long for the matter to become the subject of controversy. Asked about the fact that the attack on the film comes from his "constituency," Eastwood, generally regarded as a Republican conservative, responded, "Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right, you meet the same idiots coming around from the left."

It seems as if the more extreme, the more emotional hysteria, and the less intellect.

Maybe I will attempt to watch The Unforgiven again. I don't think my opinion of the movie will change
I don't think it will. Unforgiven is probably the single most overrated Western in Hollywood history. It's the sort of thing only an existential coffee-house brat would enjoy.

What the hell is happening to the world?
Overdosing on Hollywood/TV. Shut them off and read a book.

You obviously miss the irony of my name among many other things.

I once had a doctor many years ago. Long after others usually retire, he still made house calls. You could show up at 8AM to his office each morning with a sick child, cost $10 (his office was on the 1st floor of his house). He never wrote prescriptions when he could give you vendor samples, of which he kept a cabinet full of.
After the death of his wife (and long time nurse), he was confronted with the possibility of ending up like Reagan.
He made a choice. He walked into his backyard one day a shot himself with a pistol.
I have no judgment here other than to feel very sad every time I think of the incident.
Some things are beyond what God wants us to know now.
So, to suggest that one is either a pro-life conservative or a Godless commie liberal does nothing but substitute one's self for the 'great accuser' who stands before God and does nothing but condemn mankind.

All they see is people who have principles, and they stop there, intellectually and emotionally unequipped to make the effort to distinguish between good and bad principles. LOL... it's easy to distinguish between "good" and "bad" principles: mine are good and where you disagree with me, yours are bad :-)
Eastwood is correct in that the idiots on the left do quite resemble those on the right in many ways: those on the left make themselves feel special by hating those on the right and their absurd views and doing whatever they can to annoy them. The right is the same, just the names and causes change.

Clint is whining like a "girly man".

If you're not a pro-life conservative you're a Godless commie liberal, there's no in between. It doesn't matter where you stand on anything else, that's the defining issue.
Must be nice to live in such a simplistic black/white world.
So Condi is a Godless commie liberal?

It's a short step from Kevorkian to Mengele, Clint. I find the whole subject repulsive.
I only support mercy killing for liberal social programs.

Now telling a story is "glorification" of something. Thank God you weren't around to stop Sophocles or Aescylus from their "glorifications."
Uh, the ancients were a lot more censorial than we are. The Romans even had a high office called "Censor."

Suicide is one of the greatest acts of rebellion against God. It says to the Almighty, in effect, "I don't trust You or Your plan for me and am ending this precious life You gave me of my own accord--not to save the life of another or some other noble cause, but from pure despair or fear of suffering. It is the ultimate "non serviam" that a human can give.
If you are a true Christian, you know that God decides when your life is over, not you.

I talked to a woman who went to see it, not aware of the mercy killing at the end. She said she was stunned, broke out in tears and actually cried. I'm glad to have been warned, and I don't intend to see it.

The Catholic Church rates sin.
It is my understanding that we all fall short of the the glory of God, needing a savior. There is only one act of rebellion against God and that is rejecting salvation. A ratings scale suggests 'works' which are meaningless.
I have heard quite a few 'thumpers' in my day - yet it never ceases to amaze me when they claim to crawl into God's mind and tell others what we are saying to him...
Consider that Paul, in Revelations, truly condemns those who add and subtract from God's word. The Bible is complete, we need no more Profits; stop trying to be one.
In fact, I would suggest that for you to make judgments on my 'true' Christianity borders on blasphemy, in that you throw around words like 'ultimate' and 'greatest' as though you are adding a yet unknown person to the trinity.

Can we stop with all the knee-jerk "he's an asshole" comments?
What does that add to the debate?
"He's a jerrk"
"he's an asshol"
"I hate him now for this ONE THING he said"
...
kee-ripes that is tiring to read over and over

I think Eastwood is still trying to assuage the shame of being "Blondie."
He prefers to eat from the big kid's table nowadays and spaghetti is no longer on his menu.

This must be meant for someone else, since I called Clint a superficial idiot, which is both precise and restrained. You were the one that got into the poop-poo talk.

To understand and control our righteous moral indignation is a challenge.
- it so easily undermines our greater gifts.
