I think this Mike Pence has president material---

Gipper--I have been seeing your friend on a lot of TV shows the last few months---

I am a Bush fan, but he will be gone in 4 years, and we need to find a dynamic man to get the Republicans excited.

McCain, Hagel ---uh, un, they just don't do it!!!

Another example is the federal prescription drug program. Only a small handful of people will actually benefit from this, which marks it as a giant $500 billion federal employment boondoggle. I don't think the rest of us like paying inflated salaries and $4000-a-month pensions to people who are not doing anything constructive.

Fix your link. I'd like to read the article.

Doesn't surprise me though. Mike Pence is the real deal and always has been.

...and that vision has resulted in education and welfare policies that have increased the size and scope of government."

Most of here agree that this is not a good thing, but the fact is that for many Americans who have lived with the welfare state for sixty years, their response to the above quote will be "SO WHAT?"

For now, the debate over the size and power of government is being lost, and folks like Congressman Pence are going to have to explain to people why government needs to be reduced, not simply point out that it is large.

If this guy is going to make a name for himself and his otherwise worthy agenda by bashing Bush to the liberal press, he can forget about it. The left-wing media is frothing at the mouth for fraternicide within the GOP; and Republicans (like Pence or McCain) who fall for it, even if it is to push noble causes, are worthless - in my opinion. The struggle has to take place WITHIN the party and not through the press. This is disloyal and breaks with Reagan's 11th Amendment. We know where this leads- the GOP coalition fracturing, and Democrats seizing on this chaos. I've lost respect for Pence and his "Study Group" as a result of this.

Pence has it right on this one. Why won't Republicans shrink government?

As a personal acquaintance of The Hon. Mr. Pence I can personally attest to you other posters (though I have been a lerker here on FR for a long time, I only finally found out how to use this today, and seeing that the next Commander-In-Chief is such an important topic I had to learn how to post here!). Mr. Pence is a true Christian, and non-compromiser that will put faith, and family first. Although we are all human beings whom sin once in a while, I happend to know that Mr. Pence endevers to not only apply his faith to all the issues that he must argue in front of Congress, and the United States' People, but he is not unwilling to boldly speak the truth (in love: see Ephesians), and we should all pray for his continued importantce and blessing in our Nation's capital, and in the forefront of 21st century politics (debate) in the USA (and even the world). Not that Mr. Pence is lifted up as himself, but as a tool for Christ to spread his message to the people's of the world; as that means at times that means we needs an Iron hammer to wield , and an iron shield to hold fast against the blows of the enemey! I say let that man be The Hon. Mike Pence of Columbus, IN. Lets us continue to pray for this Godly man, and that Christ keeps him in the center of His will. God Bless, Jeremy;
I wholy endorse Mike Pence-08! (BTW I interned with Mr. Pence in the summer of 04). I am so blessed to have him as my Congressional Representative!

"The Republican majority, left to its own devices from 1995 to 2000, was a party committed to limited government and restoring the balances of federalism with the states. ,p> This is a lie.

Facts prove differently if you look at ACTUAL governmentnumbers re tax confiscation, growth of govrrnment employees, growth of government spending above the inflation rate, growth of programs, . . . and growth of government by any other measure.

I state that FACTS prove this is a lie. The Republicans, under Trent Lott, let government expand greatly in this period.

Anyone, including Mr. Pence, want to challenge me on the >b>FACTS?

Thanks for the post on Mike Pence. I would enthusiastically support him for the presidency. After an administration that has spent wildly, it would be nice to have someone who believes in smaller government. When compared with other names I've heard mentioned on this forum (e.g., Giuliani, Rice, Frist, McCain, and Pataki), none of whom I would consider conservative, it would be exciting to have someone who, like Pence, holds to small-government, federalism, border control, and conservative social positions.

There are 64 posts so far on this thread and only my one post in #63 challenges this assertion that the Republicans from 1995-2000 stood for limited government?

This is a forum that helped bring down Dan RATher! Surely, some of you out there can peresent FACTS that prove this statement is crazy.

I sure can.

Can anybody else?
