Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), said: "The Republican majority, left to its own devices from 1995 to 2000, was a party committed to limited government and restoring the balances of federalism with the states. Clearly, President Bush has had a different vision, and that vision has resulted in education and welfare policies that have increased the size and scope of government."
Pence, an influential leader of House conservatives, said 50 Republicans gathered in Baltimore this past week and discussed, among other things, an overwhelming desire to protest the expansion of government by opposing Bush's education plan for high school students. While only 33 House Republicans opposed the No Child Left Behind law in the first term, Pence predicted that a significantly larger number will vote against expanding the program to cover high schools. Michael Franc of the Heritage Foundation, a pro-Bush think tank, agreed. "It's a non-starter" in the minds of a large number of Republicans, he said.

They can't "do it cheaper" without falling back heavily on American taxpayer subsidies. That's why so many of us think they should be out the door in a NY minute.
If businesses can't "cut the mustard" without cheap labor subsides, they should go out of business. That's the way the market goes...

Pence has it right on this one. Why won't Republicans shrink government?

Pence is not trying to take the White House,he is trying to save the party.

“What I pledged to them is I will continue to favor them with candor about areas where the members of Congress are supporting and opposing the administration,” Pence said.
“I think there are millions of Americans who would be heartened to know that there are over 100 members of Congress committed to limited government and traditional moral values.”
“Conservatives are ready to come roaring back and to hold the line on any further intrusion into education on a federal level,” Pence said."
Mike Pence is our last best hope for limited government in Washington,no one knows who he is as it is,and you do not want him to talk to the media? Sanford has been more anti-Bush than Pence.

Pence is a man who can not only save the party but bring it back to its traditional values, principles and purpose. Big Government republicans who are afraid to stand up for conservative values should feel shame for misusing the power that the American people and Jesus Christ have bestowed upon them. Mike Pence is not a divider, but rather a uniter who brings principled leadership and optimism to the forefront of Conservative politics. He is a man of courage, discipline and honor. I, as well as all of America, would be blessed to have a man of such greatness be our leader and commander in Chief. God Bless America and God Bless Mike Pence

Exactly. If there's anything we should be spending money on it's securing our ports and borders. Whatever it takes as far as I'm concerned.
As a personal acquaintance of The Hon. Mr. Pence I can personally attest to you other posters (though I have been a lerker here on FR for a long time, I only finally found out how to use this today, and seeing that the next Commander-In-Chief is such an important topic I had to learn how to post here!). Mr. Pence is a true Christian, and non-compromiser that will put faith, and family first. Although we are all human beings whom sin once in a while, I happend to know that Mr. Pence endevers to not only apply his faith to all the issues that he must argue in front of Congress, and the United States' People, but he is not unwilling to boldly speak the truth (in love: see Ephesians), and we should all pray for his continued importantce and blessing in our Nation's capital, and in the forefront of 21st century politics (debate) in the USA (and even the world). Not that Mr. Pence is lifted up as himself, but as a tool for Christ to spread his message to the people's of the world; as that means at times that means we needs an Iron hammer to wield , and an iron shield to hold fast against the blows of the enemey! I say let that man be The Hon. Mike Pence of Columbus, IN. Lets us continue to pray for this Godly man, and that Christ keeps him in the center of His will. God Bless, Jeremy;
I wholy endorse Mike Pence-08! (BTW I interned with Mr. Pence in the summer of 04). I am so blessed to have him as my Congressional Representative!
Although I believe in Christian ethics, and most of its morality, as well as the "Christianity" of the USA, I personally am not a Christian and don't think it is the job of government to lead any kind of religious revival, any more than I think it's the job of government to be involved in all the stuff that Pence apparently wants to get it out of.
