It now appears that Jeff Gannon could be the thread that unravels the real story behind the TANG/CBS forgeries. I have put together a case here that if looked at carefully by the blogosphere would show that the TANG forgeries were made by the White House, probably Dan Bartlett, and then given to Bill Burkett by a former associate of Karl Rove, Roger Stone. Stone's wife, Nydia, who is Cuban, was most likely the Hispanic lady on the phone who convinced Burkett the documents were real and that he should burn them after copying them to protect her honor.

Gannon was apparently used by the White House to ID Mapes as the CBS producer and to try and conflate the Abu Ghraib photos she revealed as sourceless as the TANG docs.

The main point of this diary is that Gannon was being used by the White House to ID Mapes to send the news media in a certain direction on that story --very similar to showing him the CIA memo on Plame and the Shock and Awe scoop. In all instances, it's Gannon who is given hot information to help orchestrate the story.

THIS, PLUS THE FREEPER BUCKHEAD'S IMMEDIATE DISCOVERIES ON THE FORGERIES, PLUS THE EVIDENCE I GIVE BELOW ON ROGER STONE, MAKES IT CLEAR THE WHITE HOUSE WAS BEHIND THE TANG FORGERIES THEMSELVES.

It all makes sense now! The President of the United States -- who is usually presumed by the left to be an idiot -- ordered that memos be created which would show him in a bad light during his National Guard service so that CBS news could find and broadcast them and even -- just as the President knew they would! -- put copies on their website, so that Buckhead, a member of Free Republic, could notice that the memos contained spacing and superscript unavailable in the 1970s, so Dan Rather would be summarily discredited, allowing the President a second term in the White House. Such a cunning, devious President! -- unless the Left's contention is that he's an idiot this week. Then, of course, it's all Karl Rove's fault.

So wouldn't this plot still require CBS and Dan Rather to have an agenda to unseat a Republican president to work?
For it to be a White House plot it would require them to: believe the media is so unbalanced and to the left as to ignore basic requirements to vet their story, ignore experts, fail to check sources, and blindly rush forward with an unprepared story. Without the believe in a psychotic and unrational left the plot doesn't work. Which they claim did work.
In a backhanded way it is a compliment. It says that Republicans and the White House are infinitely smarter than ignorant left wing media operatives. I don't really have a problem with that. I think it is funny.
