http://newmarksdoor.typepad.com/mainblog/cars/index.html Volkswagon has produced a two-passenger concept car that gets 235 mpg. Looks like something from the Jetsons.

Almost every automaker at the recent Tokyo Motor Show displayed good hybrid-electric prototypes, some getting more than 100 mpg. Volkswagen already sells Europeans a 78-mpg, four-seat nonhybrid subcompact and plans a two-seat city car for 2003 that will get 235 mpg (not a typo; VW is even testing a diesel version that gets the equivalent of 282 mpg). When cars are so fuel-frugal, powering them with fuel cells becomes a near-term option using current technology."

Here's pics of the car and its technology. It looks pretty cool http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame.php?file=car.php&carnum=1316

I've a buddy who hit 80 going down Fountaingrove Parkway lying on a skateboard.

You can get a garbage can on wheels to 80 also, but just because you can doesn't mean it's adviseable.

Anyway, I remember all the hype about the Segway that was supposed to revolutionize transportation. Well, that was a big hit. Maybe I'm being just a bit skeptical, but I'll need to study more about the mechanics of these new wonder cars before I'm convinced....

Is this true? How fast can it actually move on the hwy? From what I've heard/read, these vehicles can't travel long distances, or at high speed. Not that this can't be improved upon.

Don't misunderstand. It's actually a beautiful car. Ideal for people who live in metropolitan areas.

Well when you get one that looks like a "37" Ford and
does the quarter in under 15 seconds I will consider it.

I didn't hear how fast this thing will go or how fast it
can get out of the way of something a little larger like
maybe an Iseta.

Then of course there is the horse that gets 1000 miles per
gallon of gas.

These concept car's need to get real or go away.

I could use one of those for my small pickup!

@ 280 MPG, it could almost be a disposable car... could anyone imagine that? Similar to the disposable cameras (which are recycled after their developed), a car could just be traded in when it needed filling up...

Americans are addicted to gas guzzling SUV's as symbols of wealth and quiet power.

I have a GMC Sierra 1500 and my girlfriend has a GMC Envoy. They are not symbols of wealth or power. They are transportation that can be used all year 'round and can haul anything we need to. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Yes, but how fast does the driver have to peddle to get this mileage ?

One of my peeves with the concept cars is that they are all sooo small. My old neigbors had bought a toyota hybrid because they commuted. I don't care how efficient it is, if it's a tiny car i don't want it. Don't want a car so tiny that they will just shovel me up and bury me in it after i hit a cardboard box on the side of the road.

(Chuckle)Can the car handle enough road for 8 hrs.?

Lori675

Frankly, I am of the opinion that it is these cars that represent, in the celebrity mindset, "wealth and a quiet power." These vehicles are too expensive and impractical for the average American family.

two-passenger

Where does that leave conservatives who believe in having families?? Just try strapping a 6 mo baby to a skate board and dragging him behind this awesome energy efficient car, the activists would go nuts...DUH!

It looks a lot like Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion design from 1933.

Why do so many see success as something one should feel bad about.

Capitalism has saved more lives than any other system in the history of the world.

Agreed. People forget that the white European is being outnumbered by Muslim people. The whites are having less kids and the Muslims are pumping them out like rats. (Pun intended) In the next generation, there will be more Mideastern persuasions in Europe than white. So then the Muslims can rule Europe.
