[history]
http://newmarksdoor.typepad.com/mainblog/cars/index.html Volkswagon has produced a two-passenger concept car that gets 235 mpg. Looks like something from the Jetsons.
Almost every automaker at the recent Tokyo Motor Show displayed good hybrid-electric prototypes, some getting more than 100 mpg. Volkswagen already sells Europeans a 78-mpg, four-seat nonhybrid subcompact and plans a two-seat city car for 2003 that will get 235 mpg (not a typo; VW is even testing a diesel version that gets the equivalent of 282 mpg). When cars are so fuel-frugal, powering them with fuel cells becomes a near-term option using current technology."
Here's pics of the car and its technology. It looks pretty cool http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame.php?file=car.php&carnum=1316

I'm glad the technoology is there. Hopefully all new cars can be this efficient.

the Jetsons had a 5-seater :o).

Ohhhh it's crash-worthy alright. As a matter of fact, it's just askin' for it. Why do you think it's shaped like a coffin?
It gets 235 mpg.....and travels at 1 mph. Only the Hollywood type would buy this vehicle.

Thank the FAA for sitting on their hands so you can't get your flying car.

I'm not sure that my BMY R69-S mototrcycle had that fuel economy! Then again, times change, riding a bike versus ... driving a Beemer 325i (heaven). Next on the list of toys is a Beemer, Mini Cooper-S! Drove one about two years ago. Even the DEALER told me to get on it.! The Mini S is better than...
Of course we need an H2 for composite purposes.

This reminds me of those cute German mini-cars from the 50s, the BMW Isetta and especially the Messerschmitt mini. The latter also had tandem seating.

Actually, there are a number of American's out there who buy SUV's for reasons other than status symbols. Unlike your average Europeon, a lot of American's have a household of three or more kids.
Growing up, our family not only loved travelling, but also travelling off-road. Without our large vehicle we would not have been able to take those fun filled, memorable adventures.

I have a VW New Beetle and its a great car. This one looks like a show-off auto show design. I doubt it will ever enter into production.

Aye, and drive it when the cameras are on, otherwise they'll be driving gas guzzlers too.
Well, except that Ed Beggly guy, or however you say his name.

And John Kerry of course. After all, it is Tereza's gas guzzler, and not his.

I wonder how crashworthy it is, thoughNot very, but I believe it sports a 20mm radar directed chain gun as an option so the driver can take out any hostile SUV's before collision.
