The President had no formal appearances today, but in a 98-0 decision, nominee Michael Chertoff was confirmed as the new Secretary of Homeland Security by the Senate. President Bush signed a declaration that Ohio is a major disaster area due to a severe ice storm, heavy snow flooding and mudslides (it's still a mess here!). First Lady Laura Bush spoke today at the 2005 Community College National Legislative Summit in Washington.
The Dems are on the run and losing ground. It's a GREAT Day to be a Bushbot, so ENJOY your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose!!

Chertoff earned a reputation as a tough investigator of President Clinton's Arkansas business dealings when he served as chief counsel to the Senate Whitewater committee in 1994-96. No charges were ever filed against the president or Hillary Rodham Clinton, now a Democratic senator from New York. She said Tuesday that his nomination "merits careful consideration." Can't remember who watched Amazing Race, but tonight Dr. Phil has a special on romance on TV, and he's going to have the couple that fought horribly during the whole race. Looks like it will be a good special--there are other couples on, too.

So, what was the President doing on the 11th? Gonna have to do a little digging...
The only public appearances that day were the ceremonial swearing in of Mike Leavitt as the new HHS secretary. It was at the HHS building, I think. Then, that night, the President and First Lady hosted the "Lincoln: Seen and Heard" performance in the WH. So if the photo was taken on the 11th (Yahoo captions have been known to be wrong -- a lot), the photo must have been from one of those appearances.
