TWO QUESTIONS:
A) How would this Fair Tax affect the native american nations that have set up shop and refuse to pay any state tax?
b)
what would be the definition of New vs. used ie. could a car dealer drive a car around the block and sell it as used?
I also know that Mr. Chambliss (R.GA.) of the Senate is on board. I don't know what other senators have signed on.
As with any tax, there will be cheaters. There will also be a lot less enforcement needed. I can't imagine Wal-Mart trying to cheat and risking the sanction.
Yes, there is a similar bill in the Senate.

We can debate the economics of consumer price levels post NRST til the cows come home. I think all would agree that there will be beneficial rollback of the price of goods and services due to competitive forces and the tax and regulatory relief the plan affords. But I don't see any debate on the stimulative effect of taxing consumption vs. earnings. That, to me, is the clincher of the whole argument. The naysayers are not seeing the forest for the trees. When you have phenomenal prosperity and freedom from intrusive taxes you can afford to pay a little more for your next boat.
You asked about native americans.. anyone born in this hemisphere is a native american... ergo, I am a native American. But if you mean the American Indian nations, I assume their sovereignty still trumps fed law.

The Fair Tax does not affect state taxes at all.

As with any taxation abuses may occur. While it is proposed that the IRS be abolished there would necessarily be an enforcement arm of the new entity. Such an overt abuse as driving a car around the block and selling it as used would and should be actionable, IMHO.

Here in central NY we have the Onieda Nation. They started with a bingo hall and evolved into a mega casino entertainment complex featuring golf courses, hotel and retail gas and cigarette outlets.
They're buying up land by the hand full and claiming it to be sovereign. I would suspect they would be exempt from the fair tax start selling everything.
Maybe my point is they're a perfect example of what one can due when they are not burden with taxes.

For me there is only one issue in this argument and that issue is

Either we will continue to suffer the communist inspired mess we currently have were every one of us is noting more that a chattel, a SLAVE, or we can force our employees in Washington to pass into law HR25/S25 and once again be FREE MEN in the sense that our founders intended.

Imagine some 6.5 TRILLION dollars currently held in foreign accounts being repatriated to the good ole USA virtually overnight because they can now do that without any tax consequence!
Imagine another 1 TRILLION dollars minimum every 5 years being wasted dealing with this current mess being put to more productive uses!
or in my case, free woman. But yes.. this has been my thought all along. Its why I brought this post to Free Republic... to awaken folks to the possibilities.
