Teacher Charged With Having Sex With 13-Year-Old Student

Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005 McMINNVILLE, Tenn. - An elementary school teacher has been charged with having sex with one of her students, a 13-year-old boy, at his home and at school, authorities said Tuesday.

Pamela Turner, 27, was charged Monday with 15 counts of sexual battery by an authority figure and 13 counts of statutory rape for acts between November and January. Story Continues Below

Turner, who teaches physical education at Centertown Elementary, lived at the boy's house "for a brief period of time when she was moving from residence to residence," Warren County prosecutor Dale Potter said. The boy's parents did not know anything about the relationship, he said. Potter said Turner was arrested Monday in Clarkrange, her hometown about 55 miles northeast of McMinnville in central Tennessee.

Conviction on all counts could be punished by up to 100 years in prison. But Potter said it was more likely that a conviction would mean a minimum of a year to several years in prison.

Turner is free on $50,000 bond. She's been placed on leave by the school system.

A telephone message left at the home of her father, who lives in Clarkrange, was not immediately returned Tuesday evening.

Turner's husband filed for divorce in January, alleging inappropriate marital conduct, according to the Southern Standard newspaper in McMinnville.

Wow, thanks for the discourse on male sexuality. I am not a foolish woman. I understand there are differences in the sexes that are ever present. Although I do believe that most men feel the way you do about sex, there are some out there who believe it is more than a carnal exercise. I know three attractive, intelligent men who actually have done the unspeakable--waited for marriage to have sex!! GASP! (my husband, brother, and brother-in-law). But alas, most men do not regard it as anything but physical. I understand that. However, we are not talking about a man here, we are talking about a boy, a boy who was exposed to a bizarre sexual relationship at a very young age. No male, in my opinion, should be having sex at that age, let alone with an adult. You laugh off the emotional consquences of this, but if you really believe there is no victim, why should the woman be punished. In order for something to be a crime, someone has to have suffered, right? There has to be a loss of sorts. What is the loss here? Its a gain in your book, right? Why can't a female consent to this? Why is it not a benefit for her to have an older, experienced man show her the ropes? I understand the physical consequences are different, but what if is incapable of getting her pregnant and does not have a large penis? Would that be okay with you? I am saying the power that drives sexual abusers has an affect on the victim, regardless of gender.

"I understand the physical consequences are different, but what if is incapable of getting her pregnant and does not have a large penis?"

I read this part of Hitman's perspective in chapter 2 and it was a weak argument.

A big ____? Laughable.

"Double standard. UNFAIR. Children should be left as children, and the entire thing makes me ill."

Well stated. This sex-crazed loose slutty society has produced all kinds of ill-begotten (no pun!) effects, and it'll only go downhill. We have enough trouble keeping children as children and letting them grow up w/o vile influences like "Sex in the City" playing and "Levitra" ads showing, let alone scoffing at real boys being taken advantage of by real women.

I was just postulating; I can't imagine homos would always be satisfied w/just entry. I'm sure they would like to play w/some1 else's, not just theirs!

"Because of this, there has been a longstanding (and I think largely legitimate) public policy concern to more closely guard and protect the sexuality of women more than to guard and protect the sexuality of men. That's commonly called a 'double standard' by those uncomfortable with the thought that men and women are somehow different, but in fact it is not a double standard (two different standards for the same thing), but rather it is two different standards for two different things."

W/o reading the rest of your tome, I'll cut this out....

You mite be shocked to know many of us have no problem w/"differences" - we know they exist. Hell I just posted that I don't care if there really are male-female intelligence differences (which I believe there are).

But your thinking basically OKs the very male sexual override which *gets* those girls "in trouble" in the 1st place!!!

Wouldn't it be best to curb the appetites of ALL for the benefit of the girls? AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE BABIES THEY PRODUCE?

YES.

I'm sorry, I wasn't entirely clear.

I think that upon reflection, most men think that sex is more than just a carnal exercise. I explicitly referenced this when I said that men develop a strong emotional bond when in extended monogamous relationships with women.

All I suggested was that based on our hard-wired instincts, our first reaction to a sexual situation is based probably more a physical reaction rather than an emotional one.

And like I said, males of all ages are entirely capable of seeing the base appeal of having sexual trysts with a variety of beautiful, receptive young women, without the downside of developing much of a strong emotional connection.

The fact is, women find pulling their version of this stunt a more difficult - though certainly not impossible.

The hard-wired instinct on the part of males to sexually possess a variety of beautiful women is strong, though not overpowering one. We aren't slaves to our sexual instincts (well, most of us aren't). You are 100% correct.

Waiting to have sex until married is honorable, legitimate, and probably very wise. I was celibate throughout my high school years, though that wasn't exactly up to me. If I could have found a willing sexual outlet, and not any nobility on my part.

As for laughing it off, I was explaining why most men instinctively laugh it off, and not defending statutory rape. So my post was more about perceptions, especially how our culture perceives (legitimately) the differences in sexual identity of males and females.

I explicitly said that if she is guilty, she is mentally ill and should be locked up. We are in agreement. My post was intended not as a defense of statutory rape, but to explore:

1. Why our culture, legitimately, considers & guards female sexuality differently than male sexuality; and

2. Why it's a natural male instinctive response to project themselves (at their current age and again at the tender teens) into the situation, and honestly get sexually excited. Then, as I said, upon reflection sets the gravity of the situation becomes more apparent.

I don't want to be ambiguous about it at all. I do think that this kind of behavior regardless of sex is against public policy, is wrong, and should be illegal.

But I also don't want to be ambiguous - you should understand that males will at least initially brush this off and get a laugh out of it for the reasons I stated.

Most of us, single, married, dating, young teens, middle age, elderly, etc, see the accused woman in this case and our first response is to admire her youth, very good looks, fitness, sexuality, and our instinct is to have sex with her.

We don't always act our instincts, of course.

When presented with the thought of her starring in a teenage fantasy, we respond normally, naturally, and accordingly. That is, the prospect of no-strings, passionate, and low-cost (financial and emotional) extended physical affair with a woman who looks like her is a downright giddy prospect.

Upon reflection, I do think most males (and females) see that these types of episodes are, for the reasons you mention, criminal and wrong.

But all I'm saying is that in the men's locker room, males of all ages will joke about it, largely based on the fact that the woman is very sexually appealing, and they all know that the situation (in a fantasy and romanticized way) is a boy (and a man's) dream come true.

In the jury deliberation room, the stakes are higher and the whole episode is taken much more seriously. And it should be.

And that's ok by me, really - anything less would be uncivilized.

I'm feeling great! I am gearing up for a wonderful Valentine's weekend with a young woman I am dating in LA - entirely legit, of course, I am 37 and she is in her early 30s, and not her young teens!

;-)

Thanks! You are a great producer! Haha!

And in any event, I'm just addressing how the sexes look at this situation differently, that's all.

Thanks for understanding - you are wise, and the best producer a fella can ask for!

So, to clarify, are you agreeing that this type of act can have extremely negative effects on a young boy? Because you are still eluding to the fact that you would have welcomed such an advance.

"A lot of women thought Ted Bundy was a good-looking man. I'm mystified that so many seemingly otherwise normal people believe that an attractive man can still be a monster, but an attractive woman cannot."

Another excellent example of weird reactions to good looks w/o really considering the deeds, or at least having the DECENCY TO SHUT UP ABOUT IT (hold your tongues, you pigs!). I despise these pathetic women who pen-pal and then marry these thugs in jail. What sickos. Even if they're not "harming" any1, they're still sick, and their stories shouldn't be told as if they were some kind of fairy tale.

I don't disagree with you at all, and you actually should have continuned reading the post and my follow-ups and you would see that.

It IS best to curb the appetite for the benefit of the males and the females, I agree entirely.
