Recently, two Freepers who have some measure of prominance outside the forum have been damaged by liberals and/or Democrats. Jeff Gannon has resigned as a White House reporter, and the individual who goes by the name NCPAC has left his position in Maryland.
J. Gannon wasn't necessarily damaged by anything he posted here, but NCPAC was damaged by the work of a Democrat mole or a Washington Post reporter who revealed his freepmails.
It should be possible to post on this forum with anonymity and to be able to really discuss what's on your mind without worrying about Democrats trying to ruin your professional life, so, in order to help prominent Republicans who may wish to be an active member of Free Republic, I'm formulating some suggestions that I would like to have new users see.
This is what I have so far, as far as guidelines to help our prominent freepers avoid damage in the future:
If You Are A High-Profile Individual In “Real Life”….
If your daily job is such that you are a high-profile individual – as example, an official in a Republican campaign, or a state official in a Republican administration, or a rightward-leaning reporter – please read this article and take these suggestions.
- Please don’t reveal your identity. Please don’t drop hints as to who you are. Please don’t succumb to the temptation to show off a little and thusly compromise your anonymity.
- Know that there are Democrat operatives (and now, it appears, Legacy Media reporters) who pretend to be loyal conservatives. They will attempt to get you to reveal damaging information about your candidate, your administration, or your media enterprise.
- This is for ALL Freepers: Never reveal any personal contact information. Please don’t post (or share in Freepmail) any email accounts, private phone numbers, addresses, or places of employment – unless you really know and trust the person to whom you are revealing these things.
- Know that Freepmail can be, and sometimes is, exposed publicly. Please, never say anything in Freepmail that you would not want posted on the public forum. Please, people, add whatever you think might be helpful, and I will post the result as a new article.
I love it when FR decimates news.....

Personally, an opinion is just that.. In Government its not enough to have an opinion of your own. you must convince many others to see it your way to get anything done.. so IMHO, the higher you are in Government the MORE you need to spread YOUR opinion, and get others on board.
This whole idea that you need to keep your opinion to yourself and spout the "party" opinion, is what is hurting America. I hate it when high ranking Government Officials are not PUBLICLY saying what they "really feel", but then agree on a compromise that we can get enough votes to pass. That way WE THE PEOPLE, can support those that more closely match our PERSOANL opinion on the issues.
With all this fear of saying what you mean, and meaning what you say, we the people are left having to read between the lines.
I just thought of another suggestion. But if I tell you, I'd have to kill you, this thread, and the entire forum. BBBWWWAAAAAHHHH!

Dan from Michigan, you have hit the nail on the head as well. During some of the debates on some issues, things get VERY heated. One thing about DC - you have people who will take someone out just to settle a score; even if they agree on 90+% of the issues. I know on a few threads, I've gotten into heated arguments - I will make no apologies for calling things as I saw them at the time, but I am willing to let some bygones be bygones.
One of the oldest motives in history has been revenge, aka payback, for a real (or perceived) slight. It's arguably the motive for Cain killing Abel. In succeeding with things like SoreLoserman (thank you, Registered) and Rathergate (credit to Buckhead) - both of which stopped the Left cold in efforts to defeat President Bush, Free Rrepublic has made powerful enemies in the "Old Media" and DNC. The media and the DNC had it coming, in my opinion - and both were shining examples of what heights Free Republic can reach. However, reaching those heights came at the expense of some powerful folks with big egos, and their agendas. This means that Free Republic's going to be in the crosshairs.
We should not be afraid to fight the Left, but at the same time, I also will argue that it is prudent to look at where Free Republic might be vulnerable to attacks from these enemies, and take steps to reduce or eliminate that vulnerability.

Hi, Dolly. You're welcome. It's way too easy, especially on social threads like "Day in the life..." pages, to let our guard down. But, like any human endeavor, the internet has both it's very positive and very negative aspects. We all need to remember that human predators are always among us.
Oh, please don't do that........LOL. I'm thinking of picking a "cut off date" and not posting to anybody after that........LOL.

Another thing about that - if you do use your real email addy and it ends in ".gov" or ".edu" then you are open to somebody mining that information and sending a complaint to your organization that you are FReeping on somebody else's time. It doesn't even have to be true to cause you trouble.
Nobody is a "nobody" if he or she is outspoken. Posting to FR makes you a somebody by default. There are people who would harm you for that reason alone.
I used to deal with this by cultivating a reputation for being heavily armed and homicidal, but since I joined the Illuminati I have an entire staff to take care of my assassinations for me. It's quite a relief.
