Need Intelligent Freeper Input: Guidelines For Our Prominent Freepers
Source: All of us | 02/11/2005 | By Laz

Posted on 02/11/2005 7:19:23 AM PST by Lazamataz

Recently, two Freepers who have some measure of prominance outside the forum have been damaged by liberals and/or Democrats. Jeff Gannon has resigned as a White House reporter, and the individual who goes by the name NCPAC has left his position in Maryland.

J. Gannon wasn't necessarily damaged by anything he posted here, but NCPAC was damaged by the work of a Democrat mole or a Washington Post reporter who revealed his freepmails.

It should be possible to post on this forum with anonymity and to be able to really discuss what's on your mind without worrying about Democrats trying to ruin your professional life, so, in order to help prominent Republicans who may wish to be an active member of Free Republic, I'm formulating some suggestions that I would like to have new users see.

This is what I have so far, as far as guidelines to help our prominent freepers avoid damage in the future:

If You Are A High-Profile Individual In “Real Life”….

If your daily job is such that you are a high-profile individual – as example, an official in a Republican campaign, or a state official in a Republican administration, or a rightward-leaning reporter – please read this article and take these suggestions.
  1. Please don’t reveal your identity. Please don’t drop hints as to who you are. Please don’t succumb to the temptation to show off a little and thusly compromise your anonymity.

  2. Know that there are Democrat operatives (and now, it appears, Legacy Media reporters) who pretend to be loyal conservatives. They will attempt to get you to reveal damaging information about your candidate, your administration, or your media enterprise.

  3. This is for ALL Freepers: Never reveal any personal contact information. Please don’t post (or share in Freepmail) any email accounts, private phone numbers, addresses, or places of employment – unless you really know and trust the person to whom you are revealing these things.

  4. Know that Freepmail can be, and sometimes is, exposed publicly. Please, never say anything in Freepmail that you would not want posted on the public forum. Please, people, add whatever you think might be helpful, and I will post the result as a new article.

When I first signed up, I used my real name, but I was a newbie and quickly realized was a bad move. That user ID, I'm not telling you.

I don't believe you. Tell me the user ID and I might.

Until then, you are #79897.

Okay, after reading ALL the posts on this thread, here goes:
Correct on the "lying cops" thing. They do not have to tell you if they are a cop. I never could understand why the hookers just didn't say they were selling condoms for 20 bucks a pop and the sex was a free gift. But, ever forward.
Conspicuous by it's absence is not the threat to job or position but to life and limb. Many FReepers, have somewhat, strong opinions on muslims, don't think that only reporters and Dems lurk here.
The old saying goes, even the fish wouldn't have gotten caught if he kept his mouth shut. I think Rush has even commented on a person's desire to always be the smartest guy in the room.
Another way to post your opinion while keeping track of who views it, use a private address on a personal web page. Then link your comments back to it when posting. You can track who visits your site and follow them back to some degree that way.
You might also check out public libraries where wi-fi is present and sit in you vehicle and connect to the internet through their windows and log on.

I have absolutely no problem with someone finding my posts. I do have a problem with someone showing up at my front door or hassling me on the street or getting my phone # and calling me none stop or sending me e-mail to my personal account.

It's not exactly hard to left click on a picture, get someones domain information, put it into www.whois.sc and get their home address and phone number all for free.

I really don't care if you do it or not. Laz asked for suggestions and I suggested. In this matter I would err on the side of caution, but I guess that's just me.

But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Well, that would explain the banging and moaning I was hearing last night...

I always use 123 Anywhere St., AnyCity, NY 10101.

Of course, since my real name is John Doe, that would only make sense.

Dog,
Sorry if I offended you, but FR has grown into something rather different than it was originally. That was my point.

Something that is very important.

It's the best site on the web bar none, but a large part of the site is basically chat room like banter.

I am very proud to be part of it.

Good vanity post. I haven't read the responses yet.

Looking back, I'd probably change my screen name if I didn't have a 5 year history here. I have a rather distinct posting style, so it's not worth changing it now. I'm not a high profile poster, but I have at times let frustration get the best of me on some posts that have had unprofessional language that I generally would not have used in person.

I have to agree with what you posted and add one thing I always assumed since being on here. Anybody can be anybody on the net. MD4BUSH could be an O'Malley Staffer. I'm sure there are staffers here. Most probably don't post. I've read DU and Kos - mostly for scouting Reports.

It's not surprising that the democrats have trolls here(I'm not referring to the obvious disruptors). I'm sure some here troll the dems too. I know some pro-gunners that trolled an anti gun conferences. In my experience, they are probably the best at trolling.

I don't post the inside stuff here (unless authorized). I'll just say that when I was doing campaign work, any inside information was discarded through a shredder so the dems don't find anything if they rummage through the trash. I'm sure they do the same thing.

Lastly, the nastiest political battles I've ever seen or have been involved in were not partisan related, but office/internal politics. I almost got in a court battle with an organization of which, I used to be the PAC treasurer.(takeovers, etc). It's not fun, but it happens.

FR has its own share of internal politics and scorned startup sites in response which hate FR. Take out the lead dog, and you're number one, and those unaware may get crossfired. It's not personal against that poster(although the site), but it's a simple battle of the pecking order. There are those also who want to be the "star" on this site as well and would step on the toes of others in order to do so.

Everybody has an agenda. That can be good for the site, bad for the site, or somewhere in between.

We might want to change your screen name to Weenie Green.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... you're pompously employing the "Royal We", no doubt.
I much prefer "We the People", it has a nicer ring to it.
So as far as I'm concerned, your call for an exclusive, invitation-only gated-community of "trusted" FReepers is out of bounds.
I'd much rather see implementation of a "kook filter" so that We the People have our own CHOICE of who gets filtered out.

Also, truth be told, I'm not even me.

You mean you're not a 2000 year-old Sherpa Guide living in the Himalayas as you claimed in FR Mail??? Sheesh!! I'm so easily beguiled!!
