Religous Humor? (a groaner)
A man's car broke down as he was driving past a beautiful old monastery. He walked up the drive and knocked on the front door. A monk
answered, listened to the man's story and graciously invited him to spend the night.
The monks fed the man and led him to a tiny chamber in which to sleep. The man thanked the monks and slept serenely until he was awakened by a strange and beautiful sound.
The next morning, as the monks were repairing his car, he asked about the sound that had woke him.
"We're sorry," the monks said. "We can't tell you about the sound. You're not a monk."
The man was disappointed, but eager to be gone, so he thanked the monks for their kindness and went on his way. During quiet moments
afterward, the man pondered the source of the alluring sound. Several years later the
man happened to be driving in the same area He stopped at the monastery on a whim and asked admittance. He explained to the monks that he had so enjoyed his previous stay, he wondered if he might be permitted to spend another night under their peaceful roof The monks agreed, and so the man stayed with them again.
Late that night, he heard the strange beautiful sound. The following morning he begged the monks to explain the sound. The monks gave him the same answer as before.
"We're sorry. We can't tell you about the sound. You're not a monk."
By now the man's curiosity had turned to obsession. He decided to give up everything and become a monk, for that was the only way he could learn about the sound. He informed the monks of his decision and began the long and arduous task of becoming a monk. Seventeen years later, the man was finally established as a true member of the order.
When the celebration ended, he humbly went to the leader of the order and asked to be told the source of the sound.
Silently, the old monk led the new monk to a huge wooden door. He opened the door with a golden key. That door swung open to reveal a second door of silver, then a third of gold and so on until they had passed through twelve doors, each more magnificent than the last. The new monk's face was awash with tears of joy as he finally beheld the wondrous source of the beautiful
mysterious sound he had heard so many years before..........

I rarely jot notes to you but want you to know that I enjoy your varied posts of words, links, graphics so much. You offer a lot of wisdom to this thread.
Hope to meet more FReepers after the wonderful experience at the Inauguration.. I think you are a west coast gal so it will be a bit tougher perhaps for us to face to face unless I win the lottery! (but chances are NOT too good as I don't buy tickets)
:)
Thanks for all you share. This particular graphic is lovely & as usual perfectly fitting . Lysie on the ATRW thread has a knack of finding very quickly appropriate things also. You two need to "meet"
I was about to reply to you with a "Good Afternoon" but realized it is actually still morning.............
Sigh up too early and working all morning.......remodelling is the pits - but the results are well worth it!!!
Good morning all the Finest!
Thank you Dolly
""remodelling is the pits - but the results are well worth it!!! ""
That's what I do for a living, job to job....
Happy Saturday to all our Finest Friends. The sky is blue, the sun is shining....life is good! Have a great day all!
Wienie. Prayers for your grandma...(and for your "mom" too) Love - Gizmo
Building a new house is fun isn't it Kitty? I've only done that one time in my life. It was fun to choose what I wanted. But, I've also had lots of fun redoing old houses and making them more attractive and livable.
My husband did it for more than 25 years........so at least we can do most of it ourselves without having to hire contractors.
I'm pretty much in charge of painting and wall paper........though he is going to teach me to install vinyl siding this spring. I already know how to shingle a roof!! And except for sanders, I do nothing with power tools!
Those pictures are GREAT!!!!!!!!!!
Dolly, my "Sistah" LadyX AKA Maggie, lives in S.C. She is my best friend and spiritual sister. Go back in this thread to post #57. There is a link there to the thread about our meeting two summers ago. Great thread by Maggie Malone the ace reporter. And yes, Maggie is very very wise.
That's exactly what we are doing now. I was really only kidding with Hizonnah about remodelling being the pits, I actually enjoy it - although living with the mess isn't all that fun!
Yep, doesn't that sunshine look and feel wonderful? I'm so tired of grey days.
You sound like me Gabz. My hubby and I have always done our own remodeling. I can do pretty much anything: drywall, plaster, hammering, sawing, sanding, painting, wallpapering. I love doing it. It's_me_K.E.T. and I are currently painting inside my house, but are on temporary hold because of holidays and sickness.
Hi Nan!!!!! Was catching up on yesterdays thead earlier. Looks like Grandmahood becomes you!!!!! Little Emma is blessed to have such a doting grammy!
I actually enjoy doing it.....particularly the designing part......I never knew I had it in me!!!
We've been doing ours bit by bit, but had been on temporary hold due to lack on $$$$$$$
I'll do drywall - but I really don't like it, and hubby can do it but hates it.....we've got a friend who does it for a living so after we hang it, he's he's going to come and do the taping and mudding!!! We've converting the previously unfinished attic into a walk in closet and office.
One problem with old houses is a total lack of closet space.....that's the only problem I have with this house.
Little Emma is the light of my life.
Yes, lack of closet space is a symptom of older homes, but there are all sorts of creative ways to remedy that. I have a neighbor who turned an upstairs bedroom into one huge walk-in closet with all sorts of shelves and hangers. I have used the old-fashioned wardrobes. In fact I'm looking for an antique one now to put in the guest room. Sometimes you can wall off a whole side of a larger room and still have room for a bedroom. We did that for a bathroom. When I buy furniture I make sure it has storage space. End tables with doors. Coffee tables with drawers, etc. Finishing off the attic is a good move. I still have a large third floor that is unfinished. We just never have needed it. We have 3000 sq ft already. I couldn't keep up any more. We also have a full basement for the junk and tools.
Gotta run. Have to make the trek to Wally World.....sigh. I hate shopping.
