St. Paul - A man who allegedly put a 13-year-old girl in a dog kennel for days at a time, hit her, read her diary, and strip searched her, was charged this week with unreasonable restraint of a child.

Eric Bare, 42, of St. Paul, admitted to child protection workers that he did lock the teenager in the kennel on two different occasions, once for three consecutive days, and once for seven consecutive days. Bare said that he "fixed up the kennel nice" and that it was "a suitable temporary living arrangement."

Bare is not the girl's father, but she called him dad, according to charges.

Right...

Both my daughters have had to do the single mother routine, one is on her third marriage, but has a good responsible man and things seem to be going well with her young brood.

The other has had more problems...primarily cause the kids were pre teens and now into the roaring teen years.

In both cases the very severe economic pressures impacted child caring decisions. I am helping where I can...but am miles away.

But, sadly today, the institution of marriage is a bad deal for men.

Can you support that statement?

Where does this come from, you are not the first I have heard say that , however.

Are you THAT dumb? When you monkey around with someones comments...you do it on a SEPARATE line. You added your un-italics comment to express your belief to a reader what YOU THINK I SAID. You tried to mislead and slander. It was wrong and YOU KNOW IT. You are just don't want to admit it...as I said before....it is what you call 'character'. And you lack it. BIG TIME.

It almost seems like the live-in male has the mindset that, if momma puts out for 'free', the daughters must also. (in MOST of these cases)I suppose if they look at the mom as 'cheap and easy', then that 'value' is passed onto her kids.

I've seen the single mom life. I had NO USE for any whore dog in heat sniffin' around.

No, not for the rest of your life. BUT, when a woman has children, yes, she is not to have her love life at home with the kids. The children come first, her needs, second, until they are grown and out of the house. I commend you for choosing the latter. And, yes, the world should expect it. That's what's wrong with our society today - to much me, me, me - at the expense of kids.

So are you saying that the ex-huband and father of the kids should put his love life on hold until the kids are grown and gone as well?

I live for my children, always have. I am divorced. My children are grown now, but if you would ask them, they would tell you that I was/am an excellent mother. Even while working, I virtually never missed a school party, field trip, or ballgame. I was devoted to them, and while I would NEVER have put a man before them, they encouraged me to date and try to find the right man.

Of course a woman should get on with her life and find a mate after divorce. There are times when the kids are with their dad for visitation. What is the mom supposed to do then, stare at the walls? That is neither healthy for the parent, or the child.

I know many fine, single mothers here on FR. They are devoted to their children. Seems like some who take any opportunity to bash them, and that's just not fair.

If God is involved, you'd get married.
The very last thing I want to teach my daughter is that its OK to shack up with a man. Or that casual sex is "normal behavior".
She just might do it anyways, but she wont learn how from me!

Although in this instance, since the mother was also a party to treating the child this way, marriage probably would not have made any difference.

I don't trust myself to pick a man to be around my children, but I do trust God to choose one for me!

TR, here's a true story of someone I know. She's a devout Christian, was a stay-at-home wife, married to a successful businessman, and together they had two beautiful daughters.

The youngest in high school, whom I had never met when I first met her mother, was failing in school. A teacher sent her to a school counselor and the girl told the counselor that her father had molested her.

Mom believed the girl, divorced dad.

Dad called me, wanted to know what I'd been told and I said, "Probably what you think I've been told. And I don't know what to believe. They say kids don't lie about this kind of thing."

He maintained his innocence. #1 daughter sided with him.

Mom and #2 daughter needed a place to stay but after seeing this girl, I refused. Prim and proper, well-mannered, there was something about her that spelled trouble with a capital T. I sensed that dad had told the truth.

Anyway, mom got a large settlement from dad. Took off for another state, met a supposedly Christian man, and married him. He promptly stole her money - all of it!

Eventually, we learned that, indeed, #2 daughter did lie. She needed an excuse for failing grades and didn't consider the consequences.

Satan wears many masks. You'll meet many of them in churches.

Here's another true story~
A divorced mother with three young children married a Methodist minister. The daughter who was 13 years old was molested by that minister, but didn't remember the abuse until 12 years later...no one believed her until 7 women from the church filed a civil suit against him for molesting them, and they won the suit. They won the big money settlements, and the daughter, was left to pick up the shattered pieces of her life. Moral of the story..abuse happens whether a "mom" is married or not. And yes, satan does wear many masks, and you'll meet many in the church.

Women can move on to another life after the death or divorce of a spouse.

Did you check out the link for the Beginning Experience weekends in your area so you can recommend it?

God bless you.

So true, and in many churches.

I know of three people who were married to ministers who not only sexually abused their own kids, but also others in the congregation.

Men! They call themselves "men."

Throughout history, people have been rotten to the core, whether it was preying on helpless girls or boys - or the perp was male or female.

I watched a portion of "The Human Comedy" this afternoon and thought back to what seemed, at the time when I was young, to be a better world.

Looking deeply, it wasn't. At 13, a number of bad things could have happened to me if I hadn't used a little good sense. I honestly don't believe any man, minister or not, could have either talked me into doing something I innately felt was wrong, or even to have forced me without me screaming my head off, and fighting back.

If he had hit me over the head, that's an entirely different situation, but threats would not have kept me quiet.

In fact, freepers discussed this subject on the Elizabeth Smart threads.
