Who's Proud to Be an American? (Republicans more likely than Dems to say they are extremely proud)
Gallup News Service ^ | February 8, 2005 | Joseph Carroll

Americans are extremely proud of their country. Since 2001, Gallup has been asking Americans a simple question: "How proud are you to be an American?" The results consistently show that the majority of adults nationwide are proud, and a review of the Gallup data* over the past several years finds some interesting political and racial differences....

Pride and Politics

Party Affiliation

Republicans have been more inclined to express pride than Democrats when Gallup has asked this question...

Political Ideology

Conservatives are much more likely than moderates or liberals to say they are extremely proud to be American......

Pride and Race

Since 2001, non-Hispanic whites have been much more likely than nonwhites to say they are extremely proud to be American....

Pride Among Men and Women

Gallup has consistently found men and women to express roughly the same level of pride since 2001.

Liberals are ashamed to be Americans.

I'm shocked. LOL

No "poll" required. I could have told them that.

The results are pretty obvious -- of course conservatives are happier to be American. But what should our reaction be?

It seems inappropriate to crow or gloat about this.

I'm sorry that liberals don't share the same feelings about America as the rest of us do. It's a great country -- I wish they could see that.

I don't really consider myself to be a republican but this conservative is extremely proud of the half of America that had the sense to reelect George Bush and is willing to see the WOT out to the end.

That was kind of a given. No poll necessary, but it's still nice to look at.

This country is the absolute balls, where else could some peasant scum from the West of England have it so good. In 370 years that we have been here we are not rich and we have never been poor, I love this place.

I'm glad it's working out for you. Most of my family only has 100-200 years history here, and it's been real good so far.

Even the people who are "poor" in America are among the richest 10% to 20% of people in the world -- it's hard not to do well here.

Okay, this leaves out white hispanics, what did they say?

If they were in power, running the country and plowing under conservatives, they probably would.

I have to respectfully disagree. I think liberals dislike this country whether or not they're in power.

Ain't that the truth? I tell you, when things get really frustrating in my castle, realizing that fact really does put things in perspective. It's a constant struggle to keep working at raising the quality of life for yourself and your family. Realizing what you have as compared to many in the world makes you appreciate all the work.

Of course they all want to be Frogs or some other foreign trash. I can't imagine some Eurotrash or Canukistanian going to my Town meeting and accepting, "You got the Ten Signatures, but we can't put on the Warrant."

No wonder Dems and Libs are overly defensive about their patroitism being questioned.

They have a guilt complex.

The real question people are answering is, "Are you proud of the person you are?"

Democrats preponderantly are ashamed of the person they are and have become. The question is a Rohrschach ink blot. Each American is the American they know best -- and assume, all Americans are like them.

If one is living an honorable life, living up to the standards of their own integrity, that's all one is concerned with and will ask of anyone. Democrats are fond of telling everybody else how they should be living their lives -- while feeling no need to manifest those qualities in their own, which is the one that matters -- and are the expert to judge.

Liberals and demagogues are similar in that respect -- they think everybody else's business is theirs and get up each day to tell everybody else what they are doing wrong. A person doing right in their own, is proud to be themselves -- the best they can be.

High self-esteem does not arise from self-esteem classes to fool oneself and everybody else into thinking so. It's how you really feel about life -- as an American.

I think there was an error in the first graphic.

Republicans (including "leaners") was correct but
shouldn't the other one have said

Democrats (including "wieners")
