The real question people are answering is, "Are you proud of the person you are?"
Democrats preponderantly are ashamed of the person they are and have become. The question is a Rohrschach ink blot. Each American is the American they know best -- and assume, all Americans are like them.
If one is living an honorable life, living up to the standards of their own integrity, that's all one is concerned with and will ask of anyone. Democrats are fond of telling everybody else how they should be living their lives -- while feeling no need to manifest those qualities in their own, which is the one that matters -- and are the expert to judge.
Liberals and demagogues are similar in that respect -- they think everybody else's business is theirs and get up each day to tell everybody else what they are doing wrong. A person doing right in their own, is proud to be themselves -- the best they can be.
High self-esteem does not arise from self-esteem classes to fool oneself and everybody else into thinking so. It's how you really feel about life -- as an American.
