A study to be published in the March 2005 issue of the journal Human Genetics, and available online now, actually undermines the commonly held view that homosexual orientation is determined by genetic factors.
The study’s lead author Brian Mustanski from University of Illinois at Chicago said in a UIC news release that "There is no one 'gay' gene. Sexual orientation is a complex trait, so it's not surprising that we found several DNA regions involved in its expression."
However, a thorough examination of the actual report reveals no statistically significant findings for any of these DNA regions.
The authors describe in the article three non-X chromosomal "new regions of genetic interest” (7q36, 8p12, and 10q26). In the authors’ view, a noteworthy aspect of the study as follows: "Our strongest finding was on 7q36 with a combined mlod score of 3.45 and equal distribution from maternal and paternal allele transmission. This score falls just short of Lander and Kruglyak's (1995) criteria for genomewide significance." They go on to say "two additional regions (8p12 and 10q26) approached the criteria for suggestive linkage" - again pointing out that neither was statistically significant.
Thus, even the author’s “strongest finding” was not statistically significant by widely accepted scientific criteria.
The study also reexamined potential genetic contributions on the X chromosome from region Xq28. This is the region first identified by Dean Hamer as associated with homosexual orientation. One more research paper, published in Nature in 1995, deals with the brains of transgendered individuals. The researchers dissected the brains of a number of deceased transgendered persons, MTF and FTM, as well as the brains of some gay and lesbian indivuals and heterosexual men and women.
1. The BSTC region for heterosexual women was distinctly different from heterosexual men, being smaller with a high statistical significance.
2. The BSTC region in MTF transgendered individuals was in the normal range for women. The BSTC was actually smaller than heterosexual women, but not significantly so.
3. The BSTC region on lesbians and FTM transgendered individuals was closer to that of heterosexual men.
4. The BSTC region for homosexual males was slightly larger than that of heterosexual males, but not significantly so. However, there may be a saturation effect involved, that the BSTC development rapidly maxes out beyond the heterosexual male range.
One of the conclusions is, prenatal condictions most probably sets the stage for the direction of the future development of the brain and human sexuality.
As always, more research needs to be done.

Not only were earlier studies crappy science and biased to favor a pre-determined conclusion, they are also looking in the wrong place. When they figure out why some folks prefer chocolate over vanilla, then they'll be able to figure out the gay thing. Can I get a grant over here please?

The same sex behavior is a choice. The abnormal condition of attraction however is not. Therefore just like any other abnormal propensities the behavior can be overcome as long as one desires to change it.

Totally agree. These are great resources. Too bad the schools won't allow the other side to be told. So it's up to all of us to help those with SSA and tell them they don't have to succumb!

being gay is a choice, it is not a genelogical thing at all. The science that proved this theory was politically motivated.
I am not disagreeing with you. I was just trying to understand you. The condition of being atrracted to the same sex is not a choice however the behavior is and therefore those with SSA should be told the truth. They can overcome those abnormal feelings. The gay activist and society have shoved it down their throats telling them it's who they are and they should just accept it.
I don't agree. Change is a very real choice but takes a lot of hard work.

except that no study has ever shown any link or suggestion of as link to this. A chemical imbalance would have to be a genetic error and there is no genetic component (as shown in the study being discussed in this thread)
What has been shown as far as male SSADs go is that all of them (say 99.5%) share one of the fallowing characteristics. 1. Been molested or abused. 2. HAve absent or insufficent relationship with ones father.3 Suffered relentless teasing from their peers during the formative years
Most female SSADs have been molested. Some just choose to be 'lesbian' for convenience or because they hate men.
All 'homosexuals' are mentally ill, that is why they choose that behavior
