'The United States needs to lose this war in Iraq as soon as possible. Even more urgently, the whole world needs the United States to lose the war in Iraq.'
Author Gwynne Dyer explains how we havent grasped that the world has changed, that we aren't living in our old superpower world anymore, one in which we are the leader of the forces of light against the evil dark powers of communism.
Nor are we, in fact, even a military superpower in the way we like to think we are; in reality, our military machine can only be used by weak countries.
As he notes, 'War with a serious opponent would lead to a level of American casualties that the US public would not tolerate for long.
Dr. Dyer was born during World War II and has served in the US Navy as well as Canada and Great Britain's. He has university degrees from all three countries and a Ph.D. in miliary and Middle Eastern history.

Big time!
Never trust someone who says they have a simple solution to a complex system. Once again, Mr. Lessenberry, social secutity is paid by employees and employers. If you remove the cap, you will raise the burdon on businesses. They will either compensate for that by cutting wages or raising prices. So using your "simple solution" will contibute to inflation and higher unemployment. Great idea, jackhole.
I tried to read it, but all I could decipher was "blah, blah, blah, blah".
if we had that huge of a war against a so called seious opponent, then it would be if we were attacked......and like you said.....we did in months what the then Soviets couldn't do in ten years......regular armies and navies are easier to fight then this cowardly terrorist crap
Extra sugar in the dims Kool Aid this week it seems..
Well, you did better than me, all I could decifer was "cluck, cluck, cluck, cluck...."
the author takes on the most frightening topic of all the real condition of the American economy, which is now totally dependent on foreign investment.
Oh, so being a Ph.D. in Middle Eastern History makes him an economic expert? Obviously he is a crackpot, but helpful that he describes clearly the agenda that is supposed to stay under wraps.
Yep.
The only thing he didn't blame stuff on was the alien mother-ship remotely controlling his head. Needs a tin foil hat, he does.
Dr. Dyer probably still wishes the USSR was up and running, he could always emigrate to Cuba or China..
Plus the fact that we now have the most battle-tested and experienced military in the world.
Yea, we need to lose. That way the fine people of Iraq can go back to enjoying the right to be put in a plastic shredder or being blown up by Muslim fanatics.
Idiot. Regardless of 'degrees' from 3 countries. Idiot.
The world hasn't actually changed much - it's still the grubby, ruthless, cynical, lawless, violent place that it was even before human vanity chose to illustrate it otherwise. If, as Dyer does, you have the luxury of sitting in a warm office in a safe country and you squint just right, you see no difference between a Mugabe and a Bush. That does not mean that there isn't such a difference, only that through a combination of pig-headedness and ideology that you can't see one.
The UN sure did a great job with the USSR while Joe Stalin was murdering 50 million of its citizens..
What's this "we" sh!t?
LOL
ROFL!
'we'=lib morons who have been drinking the Kool Aide.
And where exactly was the BARF ALERT for this thread?
Just so everyones knows, the MetroTimes is a far left liberal rag which is distributed FREE around the area.
Good paper if your looking for classified which read "transvestites looking for couples or singles for fun and adventure"
I love how people get so down on the capabilities of the US military, despite the fact that the US has like what, 30 more aircraft carriers than any other nation in the world (or even the entire world combined? I don't know exactly, but I bet I'm pretty close). 'Nuff said.
