MILWAUKEE (AP) U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl has hired a Democratic organizer to begin coordinating his run for re-election in 2006.
The Wisconsin Democrat said Tuesday that he hired Michael Teter to start putting the campaign together.
Kohl, who turned 70 Monday, announced over the weekend that he is seeking a fourth six-year term in the Senate.
The millionaire owner of the Milwaukee Bucks was first elected in 1988 and won re-election in 1994 and 2000.
Teter was Wisconsin field director for the Democratic Party's campaign last year.
Watch your tires, Wisconsin Republicans! And now is the time to review your car insurance policies.
One good thing: The national GOTV/ fraud machine won't be in town for any presidential election in 2006, so a republican challenger could stand a chance.
Yep. And the 2000 incarnation of the Wisconsin DNC Fraud Show gave us "Smokes for Votes," where eager Dems handed out free cigarattes to homeless people. Gotta love same-day registration. Actually, no, I hate it.
You know, there's a reason he's known as the State's dairy queen.
Yeah, and I heard it was worse than that.
Just watch those van tires.
Wisconsin has been flirting with going Rep the last few elections. I'm not sure who the front runner for the GOP is currently, but if good, the race could be competitive. If Dems risk losing another Dem Senator in a state they feel within the margin of fraud they may be more desperate than they were this past election.
Kohl could be hard to beat, he'd have a monumental name recognition advantage, and mid-terms mean low turnout.
Is he the Kohl of Kohl's Department Store fame?
Thats my guess. I think he owns Kohl's.
Kohl's is a publicly traded corporation & has been for decades. I'm not sure he's ever been the majority stockholder. I don't think there was a *the* Kohl, though the first grocery store may have worked that way.
Herb owns the Milwaukee Buck's basketball team.
The kohl's family started with grocery stores, and then moved onto department stores. That's where his money comes from. Kohl's department store doesn't have much if anything to do with herb kohl now.
I knew someone who was openly *out* in DC who stated that Herb had roaming hands for young male staffers, too.
Anyone know who is running against him?
TT TO THE RESCUE!!!! I was just in DC, and the word is that Tommy Thompson is going to run against Kohl. He would beat Kohl EASILY, and quite frankly, is the only one who could. Looks like his looney brother Ed is going to run for Governor again, and it's a cinch that TT won't run against his own brother, lol.
And he's extremely wealthy. I believe his last campaign, he only used something like $7,000 of donated money.
He sold that off years ago.
Nope, Tommy seems to be staying put in DC. He, according to Newsweek, BEGGED GWB to keep him on, but no dice. According to my sources, there is already pressure on him to run, and he even mentioned running for the Senate in his resignation speech. Also I am told, that he has HUGE marital problems, has never really lived with his wife, and she does not want him back in the state full time. Don't know if it's true, but if so, the Senate would be the way to go.
