Gallup Ping
FReepmail me if you want to be on or off the list.
Damn, that immigration backslash hurt!
So much for Dingy Harry's response to the SOTU.

It only makes sense to me. The campaign is over so the Dems and Media are not engaged in their relentless campaign to smear him.
They also seriously miscalculated the effects of a Bush victory over the Iraq election. It showed them to be chronic complainers.
I'll not be surprised to see the approval numbers rise into the 60's.
Amazing what happens to Bush's approval rating when you don't have MoveOn, F 911, etc spreading lies and distortios.
People can actually make up their own minds.
55% said the United States did not make a mistake sending troops to Iraq, up from 47% last month.
53% said things are going very or moderately well in Iraq, compared with 40% last month.
64% said it is very or somewhat likely a democratic form of government will be established in Iraq, up from 47% last month.
10% said more U.S. troops are needed in Iraq, down from 24% who said that before the elections.
50% said they approved of how Bush is handling Iraq, up from 42% last month; 48% said they disapproved, down from 56% last month.
Dowd said Bush is at the high end of his approval range, given "how polarized the country is." But he said the elevation should last longer than the usual blip, because "people see President Bush's presidency as so linked to Iraq."
To all republicans who would be president, do not seek to "distance" yourself from this President.

"The poll suggests a positive environment for Bush's party. Republicans received a 56% favorable rating, compared with 46% for Democrats a 10-point advantage, up from 6 points in September. And 55% said Bush's policies would move the country in the right direction up from 51% last month" Elsewhere (on Bloomberg) this is being reported as the lowest since at least 1992 for the dems. And this when the Prez is taking what all the pundits called the kamikaze dive off the S.S. third rail? Well, heck, maybe he should try getting rid of The Department of Education & PBS next!
Who cares what the polls say? Most are done with a certain outcome in mind. The real polls are the elections. Anyway if Bush does what he says he will do, he will leave with high numbers. IMO.
Ok, wait a minute.....this weekend someone on CNN was talking about President Bush's DECLINING approval numbers after saying he will have a rough time with his plans on social security.
Mandate for change.
The amazing thing is that championing Social Security reform was supposed to cost him dearly. Either he took the hit earlier or the public supports rethinking SS. Either way, good news for the President & us.
If with all that has happened in the past couple weeks -- Iraq, Palestine, the inauguration, the state of the union -- you think these approval ratings are some sort of referendum on immigration, you ARE in the lunatic fringe.
Thanks- this will make Mark Shields sick and he will have a longer face the JFKerry.Ha.
You're right, immigration is a non-factor in Bush's numbers, despite what the few and loud tell us.
Remember that the "Greatest Generation" who are the most hostile to reform, are dying off and not as significant a factor politically as they used to be.
How sad the DUmmies will have to wrap themselves up deeper in their own little reality in order to explain this.
