Kerry Hedges on Form 180
NewsMax ^ | February 7, 2005 | Carl Limbacher

Sen. John Kerry reiterated his pledge on Monday to sign the form that would allow the government to release all his military records, but said he wanted to know exactly what was in his file before doing so.

"I have a stack of different material they sent me," Kerry told radio host Don Imus. "Every time they send me something I want to know what they sent me."

"I'll get it done," Kerry insisted in the next breath.

Last week the 2008 presidential hopeful suggested he wanted to review his full Navy file to make sure of "what is in the record and what isn't in the record" before signing Form 180.

"I'm going to sit down with them and make sure that they are clear and I am clear as to what is in the record and what isn't in the record and we'll put it out," he told "Meet the Press" host Tim Russert.

Kerry did not explain his reference to "what isn't in the record," though questions arose late in the campaign about why he received his honorable discharge six years after leaving the service.

Pressed earlier today on when he intended to sign Form 180, Kerry said only, "Shortly."

The full exchange went like this:

IMUS: You also told Tim that you would sign Form 180 releasing all of your military records. Have you done that?

KERRY: Yeah. We're gonna do that. Absolutely, I will. But listen, I also think . . .

IMUS: When are you going to do that?

KERRY: As soon as I get, as required by the military, precisely . . .

IMUS: Why don't you do it today?

KERRY; Because I have a stack of different material they sent me. Every time they send me something I want to know what they sent me. I'll get it done. . . .

IMUS: By noon today?

KERRY: No. But shortly. [END OF EXCERPT]

'cause I seem to recall Kerry insisting that Form 180 was unnecessary because EVERYTHING in his records had already been released and made available.

"Last week the 2008 presidential hopeful suggested he wanted to review his full Navy file to make sure of "what is in the record and what isn't in the record" before signing Form 180."

In other words, if something bad is in there, he needs to either remove it, or rehearse a master lie to cover the meaning of it.

"You don't really expect the Senate to do anything about Kerry do You. He will never sign the 180. It would be to much of a "disgrace".

That's why I'm an Independent.

The pathetic GOP controlled Senate is useless.

I guess they expect President Bush to do their work for them.

EVEN though the US Constitution puts it in their "ballpark"

U.S. Constitution Amendment XIV

Section 3. No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States,

shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.

But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

"I'm going to sit down with them and make sure that they are clear and I am clear as to what is in the record and what isn't in the record..."

What isn't in the record??? What does that mean? I think kerry means that he has to go through the "record" and redact or remove what does not look good. In other words, a dishonorable discharge? He will never sign the form 180.

Doesn't the SF180 just give the government permission to release copies of the entire file to whoever requests it? The purpose behind demanding that Kerry sign the 180 is not to allow him to release selected portions of his file, but to allow others to access the entire file without Kerry being a gatekeeper.

The only reason for hedging like this is to sanitize the file first. Kerry is a weasel. (Sorry, that's an unintended insult to weasels.)

even might have the old carbon-copies too

No a joke. All carbons, in the 60's and 70's anyway, were filled seperately in a back-up "dated" file. Attempting to screw around with someone's records simply means that Kerry might get caught in more than one scandal.

Kerry's only hope is to hope the form 180 thing goes away.

I think he probably did have a less than honorable discharge, and managed to have it changed in the relatively recent past.

The generally accepted theory among insiders in the Pentagon is that Kerry either was reprimanded for falsifing reports or lost his security clearance (all naval officers must have a security clearance). The second is the most damning and the most likely. There are stories that Kerry was in contact with anti-war groups that in turn had contacts with communist front programs.

In 1977 and 1978 Jimmy Carter the Incompetent upgraded thousands of dishonorable and less than honorable discharges arbitrarily outside traditional military guidelines, frequently without any military participation. This was a hotly contested point at the time and something that has always rankled many of us who were contemporaries of Kerry.

Kerry will never sign the form 180 and we'll probably never know what he's hiding.

Yes, once signed someone's record jacket essentially becomes public property.

The purpose behind demanding that Kerry sign the 180 is not to allow him to release selected portions of his file, but to allow others to access the entire file without Kerry being a gatekeeper.

Kerry can't control access once he signs the Form 180 and that is why he never will. Changing the contents of the record jacket is dangerous and nearly impossible. There are multiple copies of records in many different places. It'd require a truely vast conspiracy to really permanantly alter someone's record jacket.

I'm going to stick with my evaluation: Kerry can't sign that form if he wants to continue in politics.

I was off shore in Viet Nam, Christmas 1968

If you recall Johnson ended Rolling Thunder on Oct 31 1968

All US Ships went south, EXCEPT us.

We remained on station, within RPG range off the coast of North Viet Nam.

DD's can get REAL close to the shore, depending on the charts.

Oh, I didn't see Hanoi Kerry up here.
