Sorry, I just saw this in the sidebar. Being one who has had knee surgery and no longer
has an ACL, I sympathize with your dad. Being one who has also been advised that because of osteo-arthritis I'll need a knee replacement in the next 10-15 years. Being that I'm only 34 now, that's not a diagnosis I'm enjoying too much.
Best wishes to your dad for a successful surgery, a speedy recovery and a regained use of his leg and that the degeneration in his muscles stops.

I'll definitely pray for your father. Both my parents and my mother-in-law had knee replacements. All dreaded it, and all, afterward, wondered what took them so long! Some of the back problems might be made worse by trying to move around with a bum knee.
My Dad had his surgery at age 75 in October 1994. He did twice the rehab he was assigned, in hopes of being able to climb the steps of the Rose Bowl in January '05 if Penn State made it. PSU got there, and so did Dad, unaided.
I'm very optimistic for your father's full recovery. Keep us posted?
