I think the most important factor leading us to a
secular society has been the educational factor. Our
schools may not teach Johnny to read properly, but the
fact that Johnny is in school until he is 16 tends to
lead toward the elimination of religious superstition.
The average child now acquires a high school education,
and this militates against Adam and Eve and all other
myths of alleged history.

Extending State Control.

Humanists know that the future of our country rests
with our children. Therefore, in order to control the
future of our country, they must control the minds of
our children. And the easiest way to control our
children is to control the schools.

parental "interference" in schools, because, as they
openly acknowledge, "The Left can't survive politically
without a public school system to spread leftist

I didn't make that claim in 225, and I didn't repeat it in post 246, but I can see where you might think that from post 246. In my second sentence where I said "This latest one", it would be better stated as "This latest freeper".

But nowhere have I made the statement that Smartaleck claimed to be a teacher.

After receiving the answer to my original question I responded with my opinion and views in #321.

My opinion, more specifically, to your #74 question is that there is no age that anyone "should have to be confronted" confronted by homosexuals. Nobody should "have to be run over by a car either, but it happens.

Accused couple stayed low-key

Their ****homeschooled**** children were kept out of sight and state-required checks did not apply.

Authorities say John and Linda Dollar used a cattle prod, a hammer, pliers, a vise and starvation to punish five of the eight children in their care. But why did no one notice?

School would be a logical place for someone to raise a concern. But the Dollars educated their children at home.

Would it be fair to characterize all homeschoolers like these people? I don't think so. No more than it is to condemn all teachers as being incompetent and having an "agenda" to corrupt kids, whatever.

You are really clutching at straws. There are many issues here, some of which are:

• it only takes one teacher with an agenda
• it only takes one teacher to molest a student
• it only takes one kid to molest another

It's all the more reason for parents to protect their children at all costs, and that includes not screwing your life up so much your kids get removed by the state.

I didn't ping you. I was rebutting the whole notion of this thread that, generally, says all teachers are bad, all schools are bad and homeschooling is good and the only answer.

As the article points out there is a danger in those who profess to be homeschoolers and an implicit threat to all home schoolers from the paper the way I read it.

Sorry, moog, I meant to include an additional comment... moog answered the question Smartaleck apparently refuses to answer I was scratching my head there for a second wondering what I had done:) I never have called anyone a h---s--u-l, certainly nothing to warrant that kind of backlash. Were this any other topic, I probably would agree with most people here.

Good point. It is not fair to condemn all soldiers for Abu Graihb (sp??) or whatever it was (I think anyone who condemned the armed forces for this was out of their mind, but that's another matter). It's the same with the Catholic Church for the priest scandals. There are many good priests. The one in my diocese here is one of the greatest men I have ever seen.

I might disagree on some education things here and defend some positions since I am a teacher, BUT I would probably agree on a GREAT MANY things on other topics. Sometimes I gain a different perspective on things. But I'm not here to namecall or condemn people. Yes, sometimes I can get a bit sarcastic, but that's my sense of humor.

I love the humor that some people have here. I've been in stitches on some answers and it's fun to go back and forth with snappy (witty maybe) comebacks to each other on certain topics outside of education.

PLUS it gives me an opportunity to talk with someone of my own gender. 95% of the time it's either 6-year-olds or moms. It's no wonder my vocabulary is so simple (because of the first graders, not the moms):).
