A UNLV professor under fire for comments he made about homosexuals during a class lecture last year demanded Friday that the university stop threatening to punish him.
"I have done absolutely nothing wrong," said the professor, Hans Hoppe, a conservative libertarian economist with almost 20 years teaching experience at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada, on Hoppe's behalf, sent a letter to UNLV officials alleging that the university violated Hoppe's free speech rights and his right to academic freedom.
"The charge against professor Hoppe is totally specious and without merit," reads the letter from ACLU attorney Allen Lichtenstein.
He said they would sue the university if necessary, though they hope to avoid it.
UNLV officials would not comment on the case, saying they cannot talk publicly about personnel matters.

Prof. Hans Herman Hoppe is a brillian economist and a good writer. The PC crowd should stop persecuting the man.
You know you're on target when the flak gets heaviest. Looks like the prof hit a nerve with the institutionally embedded left wing of university world.
It would be cool to tell the University and their star chamber to pound sand. (Note, the chilling of free speech works both ways. Churchill comes to mind.)
The tell will be in how vigorous they proceed.
FRegards,
Very young and very old people, for example, tend not to plan for the future, he said. Couples with children tend to plan more than couples without. As in all social sciences, he said, he was speaking in generalities. Another example he gave the class was that homosexuals tend to plan less for the future than heterosexuals. Reasons for the phenomenon include the fact that homosexuals tend not to have children, he said. They also tend to live riskier lifestyles than heterosexuals, Hoppe said.
The ACLU sometimes takes one of these little nonsense cases so they have something they can point to when they want to claim that they are not an arm of the liberal Democrat Party.

He said there is a belief among some economists that one of the 20th century's most influential economists, John Maynard Keynes, was influenced in his beliefs by his homosexuality. Keynes espoused a "spend it now" philosophy to keep an economy strong, much as President Bush did after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Hoppe said the portion of the lecture on homosexuals lasted perhaps 90 seconds, while the entire lecture took up his 75-minute class. "
Yeah....roger that!
Ping
Yeah. Did you tell yourself that when they defended Ollie North? Or was that a little nonsense case, too?
Or when it filed a brief on behalf of Rush Limbaugh?
Hoo-boy, I can only what imagine what they would have done to my favorite Econ professors. One had a picture postcard on his office door with the caption "Screw vegetarians, let's eat some meat!"
My kind of guy. :-)
Pales in comparison to what Ward Churchill said but he's going to pay a price while Churchill will probably face no penalty. Justice is not blind when it is left in the hands of idiots.
Spot on observation, LH.
ACLU = The Enemy Within.
The professor should sue the B.S. mill anyway, now, for defamation and the whole range of career-damaging consequences that await him.
Sounds like it's time to leave UNLV for a real university.
You say anything against homosexuals, you get fired,
You want the terrorists to destory the US (Ward Churchill), you are only exercizing your free speech.
The same people who are calling for the dismissal of this professor, are defending Ward Churchill.

It's amazing that the more we look at Ward Churchill, the more outrageous, treasonous statements we hear from Churchill," Owens said. "Churchill has clearly called for violence against the state, and no country is required to subsidize its own destruction. That's what we're doing with Ward Churchill."
In the question-and-answer interview, Churchill is asked what should happen to America. "I want the state gone: Transform the situation to U.S. out of North America. U.S. off the planet. Out of existence altogether."
Another question: What are the solutions to U.S. misdeeds? Churchill answers in the interview: "One of the things I've suggested is that it may be that more 9/11's are necessary."
He only stated statistically based facts. I'm backing this professor.
