Customer Convicted For Throwing Breakfast Sandwich

HOLLAND, Mich. -- A man has been convicted of assault and battery for throwing a breakfast sandwich at a McDonald's restaurant manager.

Authorities said the man and his young son stopped one day in October to get four Egg McMuffins at a McDonald's in Michigan.

He returned to the service window to complain when he realized at least one of the sandwiches had sausage instead of ham.

He threw it at the shift manager when she asked him to give it back.

The customer has been fined $600 and put on probation.

He is also banned from entering the McDonald's restaurant.

OK, then what about this...

Randy Johnson is riding on one truck and pitching to Manny Ramirez, who is on another truck right behind him. Both trucks are going 60mph and we all know that Randy throws 95mph. When Randy unleases his pitch, how fast is the pitch traveling? I'm thinking that we need to add the 60mph to the 95mph pitch so that Manny is getting a ball thrown to him at 155mph. (I'm thinking he goes down on strikes.)

Now let's suppose the truck that Manny is batting in passes Randy Johnson's truck and is now ahead of the truck Randy is in. I'm thinking now that the speed of the trucks has to be subtracted from Randy's pitch, so that the ball reaches Manny at just 35mph.

At least that's what I used to think. But according to your post, the pitch would reach Manny at 95mph whether the truck was behind or in front of him, provided that the trucks are travelling at the same speed.

Guy's a jerk, but I wonder what the "manager" said to him to provoke him into throwing it.

Only the wheels/drivetrain would be spinning faster than the truck Burt drove into. There would be a small whiff of smoke as the tires transitted from the pavement going underneath at whatever speed, and the ramp travelling at a different speed.

Think about it: when an aircraft lands, the wheels aren't turning at 150+mph BEFORE touchdown: that's the reason there's always a puff of smoke!

Half a million pounds of airplane doesn't come to a sudden and catastrophic halt just because its wheels aren't turning. Same thing in the "car into the trailer" stunt.

I did some contract work for Domino's in the past and was impressed with their entire operation, especially management leadership. You are correct of course in your comments. However, at McDonald's one group prepares the sandwiches and puts them on a warmer. Another group assembles them. Perhaps the shift manager did assemble that order after all. It would be easy to pick up a wrong sandwich while hurrying to fill an order. I agree it shouldn't happen but it is not a capital offense justifying the action of that customer.

I have recently gotten to-go orders from fairly expensive restaurants and even after asking them to be sure and check the order I have gotten home with something not in there or something wrong. It is a real pain in the butt to go back to the restaurant no matter how nice and apologetic they are. Yet, people are people and they didn't do it on purpose.

Well thats certainly a fact. If I had only had the experience a couple of times it wouldn't be a big deal, but in my experience its about 50% of the time that fast food restaraunts get the order wrong in some way.

I haven't had that many problems with McDonald's at all, but Wendy's almost never gets the order right.

If I thought it was so complex that they couldn't do it, I'd live with it. But I've worked fast food before and its just not that difficult a job. If an electronics or other manufacturing facility had the same error rate they would be out of business.

You know what I would do, quit eating at that Wendy's. If it happens that often, it is a problem with management. It all goes from the top down. If any business will not make it right, and it occurs way too often to be excusable, I quit doing business with them. There are plenty of places that will get it right, because the bottom line is, someone out there wants your money bad enough to do what it takes.

My daughter has developed a custom, based on an Invader Zim episode, of attacking her friends with muffins on New Year's Eve. She still has not forgiven me for preventing this last year, but she did enjoy this story.

Lets switch this to a ferry pulling away from a dock. Burt Reynolds is barreling down at 80 mph, and jumping aboard just as it pulls away. It doesn't matter how fast the ferry is pulling away, Burt will hit the ferry traveling at 80 mph. In a matter of seconds, Burt will run out of deck space on the ferry and plunge into the water off the far side.

Glad you posted this. My kid works at a Burger King & I have to say that this sounds like one of the many jerks that have been in his store. If you haven't worked in a fast-food joint, you just have no idea of the slime that comes through the door disguised as 'customers'.

I think the stunt in that Burt Reynolds movie was actually done at a slower speed, but made to look like they were going 80. I imagine this stunt could be done at 15-25 MPH giving barely enough room to brake before going through the front. This same stunt was done in the TV show Knight Rider in many episodes.

But Egg Mc Muffins are really small WMDs. They may take longer to do the job, but eventually will kill thoughtless eaters by plugging up their coronary arteries. Throwing one at somebody only adds to the insult.

Burt could not have driven up that ramp if they were both doing 80 mph because relative to each other, they were stopped. Check out the link I posted above.
