India probably should be thinking about buying some additional fighter and bomber aircraft and the like.
The King had better tred lightly. The only reason Nepal even exists as an independent nation is because of India. Otherwise it would have went down with Tibet and they would all be speaking Chinese.
Marxist guerillas in countries bordering totalitarian communist countries tend not to spring out of thin air. Always wondered why that is.

This is a very complicated story. Is the King pro-Red China, or acting out of a fear of Red China? Does he look towards Red China approvingly, or was he made an offer he couldn't refuse? Something just doesn't add up. Could it be that the Maoist insurgency (or hints at removal of the same) is Red China's trump card. Very confusing--TTS
Call back the Gurkhas from UK , India and private employment .
Their country needs them....
If we can garner some international support and get some assurance of military assistance in case the situation with China heats up, I think we should go in for an all out crack down on the Maoists in the entire region. I think the current government is capable of doing that.
What does "Nepal ordered" mean. Was it Gyanendra, was it Deuba?
Now, after assuming absolute powers through the coup, the king said last night that the trade routes with China would be opened by May, and that Nepal would join the China, Tibet confederation of chambers of commerce.
I've never heard of the China, Tibet confederation of chambers of commerce, let alone that I've seen Gyanendra quoted on such.
This article seems to be playing-out fast and loose...
Why am I not suprised.
Being a Nepalese myself, I don't see problem with the King's move. The country is in shambles, thousands are dead, and the Maoists are gaining in the rural areas.
The Indian government, which can be best described as communist-lite has not done anything to prevent the Maoists from using its territory. The Maoists freely operate in the Indian states, protected by Indian politicians.
