King Bill to Repeal 16th Amendment to Constitution

CONGRESSMAN STEVE KING INTRODUCES RESOLUTION TO ELIMINATE IRS

WASHINGTON - As W-2s arrive in mailboxes this week, U.S. Congressman Steve King has introduced a resolution to repeal the 16th Amendment to the Constitution, which gives Congress the authority to collect income taxes.

H.J. Res. 16 would eliminate the IRS and the means for the government to collect income taxes.

"The IRS is an out-of-date, trillion-dollar-a-year drag on our economy," said King. "Instead of continuing to band-aid our complicated, leaking tax system year after year, we can choose a permanent solution and finally rid Americans of the fat leech they feed their paychecks to."

King has been a long-time supporter of the FairTax, a national sales tax placed on goods and services, which would replace the income tax.

H.J. Res. 16 must be approved by two-thirds of both the House and Senate, and then sent to the states, where three-fourths must ratify the amendment.

Keep in mind that this is King's bill, there is still Linder's bill and later on this year whatever bill Bush wants to push on tax reform.

This is the first push against the I.R.S. this year, not the last.

God Bless The IRS.

Without them I'd be filthy rich.

Unfortunately, you are right. Until the GOP gets at least a 2/3 majority in BOTH houses, it ain't gonna happen. I am glad to see it getting some national attention though. We have to start somewhere.

Even then, you'd have to worry about those worthless northeastern RINOs. I'd prefer to offer serious solutions.

King for President!

I know him. He has the native ability. And he's one of the most solid conservatives you will ever find across the board, too.

But I doubt seriously that that is something he wants to push right now...

Sorry. This is just flat out wrong. Perhaps the only thing worse than a progressive income tax is a regressive sales tax. When a flat tax proposal is introduced, then I'll get excited.

abolition of the income tax and the disappearance of the IRS

More likely is that they'll keep income tax, and add a large sales tax.

The King bill is the necessary companion bill to the Linder bill.

Does anyone seriously think that 2/3 of congress will approve this?

Not anybody in touch with reality.

Check out FairTax.org. By itself, this bill may not be salable, but combined with the FairTax, which is the most salable plan out there, it can expect support. Without exception (so far) everyone I've discussed the FairTax with face to face, has been initially skeptical, but their objections were easily and quickly overcome, to the point where they strongly favored its passage... even some liberal democrats.

It's 'flat out wrong' to repeal the Sixteenth Amendment???

Why do you have a love affair with the income tax, flat or otherwise? It's a plank in the communist manifesto, and is fundamentally opposed to every basic principle of freedom and privacy.

Come on, join us in the fight to deliver our posterity from the chains of the income tax....please...

The FairTax implementation is actually progressive. Not nearly so much as our present marxist income tax. The way they accomplish this is brilliant, and yanks the rug out from under those who would say it will hurt the poor.

FairTax.org has a very informative FAQ.

2/3's of states must ratify any NEW amendment to our Constitution....only 3 states voted for the 16th amendment

This is wrong on both counts. Per the US Constitution, 3/4 of states must ratify an amendment. Furthermore, 38 states(out of 48 at the time) ratified the 16th amendment.

This thread is devolving from its unserious beginning to the absurd.

The FairTax that King supports, repeals personal income tax, corporate income tax, inheritance tax, payroll, SS tax, self-employment tax, estate tax... Check out the FairTax.org FAQ. I think if you familiarize yourself with what it actually is you will be in favor of it.

It's a start, EV. But I don't think it will happen in our life time. But then, I didn't think we'd see the Berlin Wall or the Iron Curtain fall in our lifetime either, so what do I know?
